Thanksgiving Kids' Craft: Foam Turkeys
Foam balls, googly eyes, paint and colorful paper straws are all you need to help kids craft these cute turkey decorations for Thanksgiving.
Foam and Straw Turkey Decoration
Just a little adult prep and basic craft supplies are all you need to keep kids busy for hours creating these cute turkey decorations. Get crafting now to make your own.
Materials Needed:
- foam balls — (1) 2" for body, (1) 1 1/2" for head, (1) 1 1/2" for feet
- dark brown spray paint (or craft paint)
- mini googly eyes
- paper straws in green, yellow and orange
- craft glue
- scissors
- knife
- ruler
Parent Preparation
Using a knife, cut one 1 1/2" foam ball in half for turkey's feet. Paint all foam balls using dark brown spray or craft paint and set them aside to dry thoroughly. Tip: Paint foam at least a few hours before the kids will be crafting.
Cut yellow straws into five 2" pieces, orange straws into six 2 1/2" pieces, green straws into seven 3" pieces and brown straws into three 2 1/2" pieces.
Build Turkey's Body
Use a brown straw piece to attach turkey's head (1 1/2" ball) to body (2" ball).

Add Feathers
Use seven green straw pieces to create a back row of feathers, starting in the center and then adding to each side, inserting the straws at an angle (Image 1). Use six orange straw pieces to create second row of feathers in front of the green straw pieces (Image 2). Use five yellow straw pieces to create the third row of feathers in front of the orange and green straw pieces.

Give Your Turkey Legs
Place two brown straw pieces in the tops of the cut foam balls to create legs (Image 1). Attach legs to body (Image 2).
Add Eyes and Beak
Use craft glue to attach googly eyes to turkey's face (Image 1). Cut a triangular beak out of a yellow straw and glue to face under eyes, using craft glue (Image 2).
