Make a Holiday Luminary Jar

A simple snow sprayed jar is the backdrop for this charming silhouette scene.

You will need: a large jar (storage jar, apothecary jar, or vase will work)/ spray snow/ transparent tape/ craft knife/ cutting board/ black poster board/ template (included here)/ scissors/ short candle or tea lights

Use this country scene or create your own template. Measure your jar first to make sure it will be big enough to wrap around the outside. A standard piece of paper will make a strip 22 inches long. Print your template and cut it in half. Tape the two pieces together. If making your own remember to keep the shapes relatively simple.

Lay the template on the poster board along a straight edge. Tape it in place with a few small pieces of tape. Use a craft knife to trace the shapes on your template, cutting through the poster board below. Carefully remove the template and tape and make sure all of your cuts are clean. Remove the cutout from the poster board.

Lightly spray the jar with spray snow just at the top of the rim. The spray will be broad enough to make a gradient effect. Rotate the jar while adding a light coat. Repeat to fill in any gaps.

Add a bit of artificial snow to the top while the spray snow is still wet for a more snowy effect. Allow the spray snow to dry completely before proceeding.

When the spray snow has dried wrap your silhouette scene around the jar and secure with a piece of transparent tape. (TIP: if any pieces of the silhouette stand away from the jar you can secure them with a bit of double stick tape on the back.)
