Doodle Art Frame
Transform an ordinary frame into a piece of art for Dad. Use a wood frame and sand off any protective coating — this step is very important to get your designs to stick to the wood. Have the kids lightly sketch their designs with a pencil. Then go over the sketches with permanent markers or paint pens. Let them have fun adding phrases and motifs all around the frame. If your frame has a mat, you can decorate that as well to write a letter to Dad.

#1 Dad Card + Prize Ribbon
This card is a twofer! It’s a card, but there is also a removable prize ribbon. To make the prize ribbon, cut two circles from felt fabric. Make one circle slightly larger than the other and make sure both are smaller than the card you intend to use. On the smaller circle, lightly write out #1 Dad. Older kids will have no trouble embroidering the words using a simple stitch. Younger kids might need a bit more help. Attach the embroidered circle to the larger circle. For the tails of the ribbon, cut two strips of felt with a V-shape notch in the bottoms. Glue the tails to the back side of the larger circle to complete the prize ribbon. Pin it to a card and after Dad reads the card, make sure he wears the prize ribbon all day.

Hidden Image Ties
Did you know there is printer-friendly fabric? This stuff is so fun for a myriad of craft projects but especially for hidden tie images. Next time Dad goes to a meeting at the office the kids can be there with them in spirit. Print out your favorite image onto the fabric according to package instructions. Cut it to fit the inside triangle on the back of a necktie. Attach with either a fusible web or a very light coat of fabric glue. The image will appear to be upside down but that is because when Dad is wearing the tie, he can always pick up the hidden image and see smiling faces right side up.

Customized Bowl
Here is an easy craft kids can make for Dad — a ring dish made from air-dry clay. Roll out a slab to 1/2” thick and place a small round plastic condiment dish/bowl face down on the slab. Use a knife to cut around the dish so you have a circle, then remove the dish. This is where the fun happens: Have the kids press items into the clay to make impressions — letter stamps, leaves, even a fingerprint. Smooth the edges of the clay circle with your finger, then carefully place it inside the condiment dish. Press it in with your fingers, very lightly to get the bowl shape. Let it set for an hour, then flip over the dish to remove your air-dry clay ring dish. Use water and a small sponge to smooth out any cracks or imperfections. Let dry for 24 hours until rock hard. Sand it smooth if necessary, add painted accents and seal with a matte or gloss varnish.

Macaroni Art Trophy
Dad deserves an award for everything he does. Award him with a classic macaroni winner's cup trophy. Use a thrifted large glass as the base, something that is the shape of a trophy. Cut out cardboard handles and attach them to each side. From there supervise the kids with low-temperature glue guns and let them cover the entire thing in various shapes of pasta, dried beans or even small beads and toys. Once covered an adult can spray paint the entire thing gold.

Necktie Greeting Cards
Even if Dad works from home in shorts and a T-shirt, he will love these clever cards. First, find colorful fabric scraps to use as ties. Attach the fabric to cardstock using a glue stick before cutting out the tie shapes, this will prevent the fabric from fraying. Colorful paper will work great as a tie too. Next, cover the front of a ready-made card in felt (you can upcycle an old greeting card). Add the tie to the center of the felt-covered card about 1/2” lower than the top. Create a collar using a rectangular strip of felt folded together. Glue it to the top of the card and again at the points of the collar to slightly cover the top of the tie. Embellish with buttons.

Melty Perler Bead Mosaic Frame
Nobody said you had to actually melt melty beads. Kids can also use them as a mosaic of sorts. With a plain picture frame from the thrift or craft store, draw out a design. Air-Dry Clay Planters
Kids may not be able to sit down at a pottery wheel just yet, but they can get the same vibe with air-dry clay. There are several ways to create these fun face pots. Tell kids that their dad is the inspiration. From there they can create facial features to either add to a small terra cotta pot or they can make their own pot by covering a small peat pot entirely in air-dry clay and attaching features to that. Note that sometimes during the drying process pieces might come unattached from the terra cotta pots. If that happens just reattach with glue when everything is dry.

Inevitably puzzles loose pieces and they are no longer as satisfying to put together. Don’t trash it, instead upcycle all those puzzle pieces into a cute catchall dish.
