The stunning sunsets that envelop the HGTV Urban Oasis 2020 in Portland, Maine, guided designer Brian Patrick Flynn’s hand in choosing this graphic grasscloth wallpaper for the laundry room and adjoining mudroom. This large space feels even bigger thanks to the strong horizontal lines seen in the wallpaper combined with the long, low bench and a side-by-side washer and dryer. Above, solar powered skylights open to let in the Atlantic air.

Crisp, white trim frames the entryway to a powder room with a nautical blueprint wallpaper and wide, leggy sink. Since the laundry area and powder bath adjoin, this provides an excellent opportunity to juxtapose contrasting hues and wall treatments. Here, the laundry room’s pale pink and abstract tones give way to crisp, defined shapes on the wallpaper in the powder room.

A pair of cupboard doors might have concealed this storage space and its contents from view, so instead of hiding that beautiful wallpaper, designer Brian Patrick Flynn installed floating shelves. The teal paint on the walls of the HGTV Dream Home 2019's laundry room both reflects its mountaintop perch in ‘big sky country’ — that is, Whitefish, Montana — and counterbalances the rustic notes of a cowhide covered bench and southwestern-style wall art. Sturdy, handsome cork flooring carries from the appliance area to an adjoining mudroom.
