For the Love of Toby

Eight-year-old Mollie loves her fur-brother, Toby, so much that she wanted her bedroom to be a happy place to spend quality time together. Mollie also loves aqua and pink, so those became the main colors in the space. For a playful touch of whimsy, the main light fixture boasts fun paper flowers.

Portrait Session

In addition to being one of the bedroom's inhabitants, Toby is also the main subject of its art installation. For one-of-a-kind portraiture, a studio photographer captured the golden retriever's sweet likeness during a photo session. The images were printed onto large format photo paper and hung with dowels and twine.

Feeding Time, Anytime

When the family dog claims a bedroom as its own, it's smart to include a water and food bowl in the space. Instead of walking to the kitchen or mud room, this ensures Toby stays hydrated and well-fed during long play or snuggle sessions.

Shared Storage

To make space for sleepover buddies, the bedroom is outfitted with a pair of aqua Jenny Lind-style beds. A single chest between the beds maximizes storage without creating clutter. The empty space below is excellent for shoe storage.

Mind Games

Just as crosswords are good for our brains, pet puzzles are an excellent way to keep dogs' brains sharp. In this game, dog owners place treats below sliders that dogs can move back and forth with their noses to uncover treats.

Hangout Time

Nestled between two windows, a sunny hangout area was created for puppy play time, karaoke with friends, reading and listening to music. Oversized faux-fur cushions create a cushy lounging area for Toby and Mollie.

Flexible Shelving

Instead of floating shelves, art ledges were installed on the walls to display favorite pieces of art, stuffed animals and books.

Dual-Purpose Corner

This corner of the bedroom doubles as a homework station and vanity area. A custom-made, 6' x 4' cork board over the desk is the perfect place to tack up Mollie's favorite photos or keep track of homework and messages.
