Modern Deco Bedroom Focal Wall Inspired by 'Build Me Up'

The bold and cheerful style of a graphic wall seen in the show Build Me Up had us clamoring for color, so we made over a bedroom with a similar paint treatment and Art Deco accents.

Flat-Out Cool

Using paint with a flat finish ensures a matte look that doesn’t show imperfections in the wall surface. For clean lines, use an angled paint brush and pull off painter’s tape at a 45-degree angle.

Go Art Deco

The simple platform bed plays a central role in the original bedroom design on Build Me Up, as does the Art Deco bench. In a much smaller space, a bench wasn’t an option, so we decided to bring the Deco flair into the headboard. Channel tufting is a hallmark of Art Deco style.

Accent pillows with metallic-thread embroidery provide a touch of glamour.

Simplicity on the Side

As in the original space, an unfinished wood side table provides storage space while taking a back seat to the room’s other, bolder elements.

Thoughtful design touches make all the difference. On the side table, a reading lamp and clock continue the Art Deco look with simple round shapes.
