Here’s What We’ll See in 2023
The data scientists at Pinterest have a pretty good idea of what the world’s up to right now, given that more than 400 million people browse and pin on the platform each month. They also analyze search data to predict what’s coming next and what will get even bigger — and for the last three years, 80% of their forecasts have come true. (#nailedit, as it were.) Want a glimpse of 2023 in their high-tech crystal ball? The year to come is going to look like this.

Hair Care Will Focus on the Scalp and Crown
Beauty insiders predict that TLC for tresses will center on “skinification,” or ensuring the health of hair with products and practices that nourish the scalp. That back-to-the-roots approach prioritizes the same ingredients you’ll find in facial-care formulations: check labels and ingredient lists for hyaluronic, glycolic and salicylic acids, as well as ceramides and other naturally-protective ingredients that help our skin create barriers to prevent damage from happening in the first place. Shampoos, conditioners and topical treatments — along with good old-fashioned head massages — can all prevent oil, dirt and product buildup and contribute to scalp health and hair growth.

Hair Color Will Be Natural and Neon All at Once
Get ready for Gemini hair, a trend that dips its toe in traffic-stopping tones without committing to a monochromatic transformation (and the massive dose of intense chemicals that can come with it). Popular highlighting techniques like balayage create relatively gradual changes from neutral to bright color, and multi-tone looks like black braids punctuated with blue or brown-to-pink and blonde-to-lavender transitions will come into focus. Gen Z and millennial style stars are expected to contrast their natural locks with bright purple, blue and pink.

Barely-There French Manicures Will Replace Long Nails
When it comes to both hairstyles and fingertips, the story for 2023 is short. Cutting-edge salon customers will request chopped bobs, micro bangs and abbreviated braid styles versus longer tresses. Manicurists are also designing less-is-more "micro French" nails that feature just a whisper of color at the tips in lieu of traditional white polish, and short stiletto nails will begin to replace lengthy acrylics.

Dog-Friendly Party Planning Will Have Its Day
Dogs are an excellent excuse to throw a birthday party: they aren’t self-conscious when their cake has a lot of candles, they’re always up for a romp in a mini pool, they won’t hog all the cocktails (though they’re definitely up for treats) and all of their event photos are adorable. Plans for DIY backyard dog pools and play areas are on the rise, as are pooch-forward decorations and favors.
Rust and Terra Cotta are Warming Up Wedding Palettes
It was only a matter of time before the sun-baked, California-chic desert hues that have become ubiquitous in interiors made their way into event spaces. In 2023, expect the coppery orange tones of the Grand Canyon and the American West to tint everything from bridesmaid dresses and floral arrangements to wedding stationery and cocktail-hour accessories.

Milestone Anniversaries and Birthdays Call for Epic Parties
What trendspotters call "the YOLO years" — like golden and silver wedding anniversaries and birthdays that usher in new decades — are cause for celebration with family and friends, and lots of ‘em. Hosts and hostesses are ready to make up for lost time by celebrating their and their loved ones’ big days in high style. Because an 80th birthday party should be at least twice as big as a 40th birthday party, right?

Dark, Thumping Clubs Are Inspiring Escapist Rave Fashion
Speaking of bouncing back from time spent apart, forecasters predict that Gen Z and millennials will channel the nonstop energy of rave culture in and beyond clubs. Fringe Is Moving to the Fashion Mainstream
Dresses, jackets and accessories will all feel kinetic and textural next year, thanks to designers’ and fashionistas’ fixation on fringe. Iconic Rom Coms Will Influence What We Wear
If 2022 was all about the coastal grandmother, next year is reserved for her trend-conscious descendants and what fashion experts have playfully dubbed "romcom core." Think strappy dresses, tube tops, pink minis and rhinestones from makeover montages in She’s All That, Clueless, 13 Going on 30, 10 Things I Hate About You… you get the idea. Whirlwind filmic shopping trips and synchronized-school-dance sequences — and what the heroines who survived them wore to live happily ever after — are ready to re-enter pop culture.

Fashion Is Also Drawing on Science Fiction
Filmic fashion influences don’t end with ingenues and meet-cute-ready outfits. Looking ahead to 2023 also means looking far ahead to glossy, futuristic fabrics, cyberpunk-inflected sunglasses and streetwear and, of course, the latest in gaming and communications technology. According to experts, looks that were once virtual will turn up in very real places in the year to come.
Viral Finance Games Will Help Us Save Money
Though it may sound frivolous to look to games, apps and social media for savings motivation, the idea of peer pressure encouraging financial hygiene is pretty excellent — and increasingly popular, according to analysts. Whether you favor envelope challenges, bi-weekly, incremental savings or printable budget templates, you can expect to learn much more about them in the year to come.

Experience-Based Outings Are the New Dream Dates
Dinner and a movie will always be a classic combination, but Gen Z is falling in love with quirky, experiential outings like aquarium visits, pairing up to browse the aisles at local bookstores and explorations of local museums. Are mountaintop meet-cutes a thing yet? We suspect romantic hiking is a thing.
Crafters Will Turn to Intricate Paper Creations
Pinterest’s analysts predict that hobbyists of all ages will turn to the tactile and graphic delights of decorative crafts like origami, quilling and papier-mâché. Upcycling doesn’t get any prettier (or budget- and beginner-friendly) than this.
