"I selected chartreuse grasscloth for this project because it provided a visual connection to all the various live plantings of the terraced landscaping beyond," says designer James Rixner of this bright and welcoming kitchen design.

"A beautiful feature of natural grasscloth is its handmade texture. Each panel will have its own texture, and the panels will not [exactly] match one another. This is one of the most striking features of the beautiful material," James says.

"We chose this casual, chunky weave grasscloth for its warmth and durability. This room acts as the family entrance to a house with four kids and a dog, so it gets a ton of wear and tear," says designer Julie Kleiner of Massucco Warner Miller Interior Design.

"The client didn’t want to invest in artwork to hang above the wainscoting but didn’t want to have just plain painted walls either. Our warm, straw-color grasscloth wallcovering is such a nice counterpoint," Julie says. "In a space with very little opportunity to have soft furnishings or accessories, this just fit the bill."

"I chose the dark navy blue grasscloth to provide depth and texture to the room," says designer Linc Thelen. "This is a fresh, modern take [on] the traditional tan-brown grasscloth papers."

Due to the natural and varied slubbed texture of grasscloth paper, Linc suggests priming the wall the same color as the paper to aid in hiding the visible seams when hung.

With so many options in grasscloth, Alana suggests choosing one with texture that plays off the other pieces in the room. "If you have a lot of sleek, shiny surfaces, mix it up with a nubby, more organic and natural grasscloth. Instant eye candy!"

"Grasscloth wallpaper transforms a room and adds a beautiful natural element to a space," says Denise. "However it can be more expensive and harder to work with than other materials. Mistakes can be costly, so I suggest hiring a professional wallpaper hanger to install it."

The addition of grasscloth wallpaper to this bar area adds another layer of interest to the overall welcoming feel and wonderfully complements the room's vintage and antique pieces. While in keeping with the natural tones of the woods, the grasscloth lends its unique texture and characteristic pattern to the mix.

Considering grasscloth wallpaper? "For smaller spaces, you can create a real jewel box in spaces like a powder bath. Grasscloth is a timeless material that will go with a lot of different styles of homes whether modern or traditional," Raquel says.
