Sunny and Bright

Smart skylights and a trio of Energy Star-rated windows bathe the inviting breakfast nook with natural light, making it feel more like a sunroom than part of the kitchen.

Color Coordination

Roman shades on the tall windows are outlined in black fabric bands that coordinate with the charcoal-gray walls as well as the dark trim on the windows. All interior paint for the HGTV Smart Home 2020 is GREENGUARD GOLD, which means it is certified for low-chemical emissions.

Flexible Space

Instead of the standard combination of table and chairs, designer Tiffany Brooks paired an upholstered banquette with three side chairs to make the space more comfortable for family meals or afternoon snacks.

Easy Outdoor Access

An eight-lite French door opens to the covered upper deck. This allows a seamless connection from the kitchen to the outdoor space.

Durable + Stylish Floor

The breakfast nook and most of the spaces in HGTV Smart Home 2020 are covered in luxury vinyl tile flooring that is 100% waterproof and features an attached cork underlayment that is naturally resistant to mold and mildew.

Fashionable Table

The solid wood, two-tone table coordinates beautifully with the cabinetry, flooring and overall color palette. The oval shape allows for easy access to the banquette and provides good traffic flow around the space and to the adjoining kitchen.

Comfort and Style

Assorted round and square throw pillows and a cozy blanket add comfort and pops of color and pattern to the breakfast nook’s upholstered bench. The charming bench includes a tight back and seat, subtle wings and wood legs.

Shared Space

The kitchen and this breakfast nook are closely connected for easy flow, so you can have a quick cup of coffee or leisurely weekend brunch without venturing far from the cooking area.

Easy Access to Utility Spaces

The doorway between the breakfast nook and kitchen connects to a hallway that leads to the laundry room, powder room, mudroom and garage. The white trim around the doorway pops against the charcoal-gray walls and black-and-white backsplash tiles.

Storage Solutions

Just like the kitchen, the breakfast nook includes handy counter space and plenty of storage above and below. A beverage fridge and coffee station are super handy at mealtime and help free up space in the kitchen.

Control Your Environment

You can enjoy meals in the breakfast nook and control the home’s heating and cooling from a mobile app. Other smart features in the home, including the customizable security system, can also be controlled by a smartphone.

Brew Up a Cup

Framed modern art adds extra dimension to the ceramic-tile backsplash behind the coffee station. A versatile coffeemaker that can brew either a single-serve cup or a full 12-cup carafe is handy for the whole family.

Beverage Bar

With an extra fridge and built-in wine rack above the coffee station, the cabinetry in the breakfast nook makes the perfect beverage center.

Let the Sunshine In

The solar-powered “fresh air” skylights equipped with built-in blinds can be controlled by a smartphone app or tablet, which means you can enjoy the sun or a soothing breeze without going outside.

Illuminating Forms

A pair of modern globe pendants adds to the variety of shapes and patterns present in the kitchen and breakfast nook area.

Comfortable and Stylish

Custom fabric was used to upholster the seats on the modern side chairs, and the light gray wood tones pair beautifully with the other furnishings and flooring.

Living Wall Art

An indoor vertical garden adds greenery to this bright and sunny space.
