Black paint with charcoal trim adds drama and transforms the exterior of this contemporary home built in 1974, previously painted a neutral tan brown color. "To make sure the house fit in with the really nice modern homes up in this part of the country, we wanted to go with a black exterior," says designer Brian Patrick Flynn. The garage is one of the largest designer Brian Patrick Flynn has ever dealt with. Using muted gray-green paint also found in the home’s closets, he broke the space into functional areas that inspire creativity. Large glass doors with black frames fill the space with light while also subtly referencing the homes dark exterior. Paired with the crisp white walls the effect is like eyeliner for the home while accentuating the beautiful views.

A custom painted sign for Chinook Bait and Tackle from artist Celery Jones evokes a reclaimed storefront sign from nearby Gig Harbor. Industrial style pendant lights are inspired by lights you would find on a pier or dock adding a coastal feel to the space.

The great room of this harbor home feels spacious and airy with floor-to-ceiling windows that overlook the Puget Sound. Painting the room in crisp white provides a bright backdrop for the large iron chandelier that anchors the sitting area.

This wide view of the kitchen highlights the open layout and the beautiful stairwell with custom-made railing. The stairwell connects the home’s three levels and replaces an existing staircase enclosed in dry wall. "It was like a big dinosaur in the room," says project manager Scott Branscom.
