A space HGTV Dream Home 2011 architect Paul Robert Rouselle coined a "peninsula of glass," the annex boasts three walls of windows that project into the wooded backyard.

A welded and painted steel sculpture by artist Charles Orme floats like a cloud above the seating area.

An adjustable floor lamp with drum shade brightens the space on gray days.

Casual leather recliner chairs and ultrasuede pillows tell a toned-down story in the annex. "We kept that room very neutral because I think of it as a treetop room," says interior designer Linda Woodrum.

A graphic mahogany table serves as a casual foil to more classic furnishings. An Oncidium orchid, nestled in an Asian-style terra-cotta bowl, adds a shot of color.

In a space punctuated by neutrals, Bartlett pears add the needed pop of color.

Stowe mugs, custom-crafted by Sunset Hill Stoneware, sit at the ready, should a day of skiing lead to a hot chocolate happy hour.

Custom-built window-shade boxes dovetail at corners to prevent gaps between shades.

Graphic details – in the design of the rug, pillows and side table – add a modern touch to the space.
