One of three zones in the great room, the expansive living room with pewter green walls, dual sofas and custom art has large windows and glass doors that bring the stunning beauty of the Colorado landscape inside.

Colors of Colorado

Pewter green walls provide a rich backdrop for this open living room with tons of natural light and an airy feel. “Instead of going white or light, we decided to really punch up the whole Colorado aspect here with this green,” says designer Brian Patrick Flynn.

Conversation Starter

Artist Karen Musgraves was commissioned to create the living room’s bold dinosaur wall art, with colors found in the nearby Red Rocks Park. “Colorado, especially this area here, Morrison, is known for having a ton of dinosaur fossils,” says designer Brian Patrick Flynn. “It’s a velociraptor who is out fly fishing and has caught a prehistoric fish.”

Lounge-Worthy Seating

The living room’s two gray upholstered sofas with recessed arms each offer seating for three, with large reversible cushions filled with foam and sinuous springs for a supportive seat. A cozy green throw on each sofa coordinates with the rich color of the walls.

Lovely Lamps

A round black nesting table with tray top and three legs by each sofa includes a tan/sage fabric table lamp with drum shade. The stylish lamps with a three-way switch provide light for reading, while also adding color and texture to this stunning open living room.

Custom Piece

Designer Brian Patrick Flynn and HGTV host Steve Ford collaborated on the living room’s custom coffee table. The large round table has imperfect tiles on the base, and a plaster top. “He sealed it five times,” designer Brian Patrick Flynn says. “So even though it looks kind of rough and raw, it is sealed. And it will not be damaged by drinks.”

Cozy Vibe

The rich colors of the Colorado landscape and nearby Red Rocks Park inspired the selection of the throw pillows that add a cozy vibe to the two sofas. Different shades of brown and green and geometric patterns make the pillows pop.

Highlighted Art

Natural light from the living room’s large windows, glass doors and solar powered, fresh air skylights highlight the bold dinosaur art that adds tons of personality to this lounge-worthy space.

Decorative Touches

A curated selection of current and vintage books stacked at different heights add texture to the top of the coffee table. A polished brass cricket, vintage bean pot from a local antique store and other decorative items bring personality to the custom table.

Four advanced fresh air skylights in the arched ceiling over the living room improve ventilation and add to the open and airy look and feel of this major entertaining space in the home.

Three sets of French doors give the living room a wonderful connection to the deck outside, that spans the entire length of the home. The glass doors also offer views of the spectacular lush greenery and landscape that helped inspire the design of this home’s interior and exterior spaces.

Architectural Interest

The arched ceiling with rustic wood trusses adds architectural interest to this enticing space. The trusses also create a focal point that visually frames the living room seating area below.

Colorful Solar Blinds

The skylights include dusty green solar blinds that color coordinate with the living room walls, increase energy efficiency, and provide darkness when desired.

Rustic Charm

A water-resistant, White Oak engineered hardwood floor with distressed gray finish brings rustic charm to this elegantly rugged mountain escape. The natural tones of the wood floor contrast with the green walls that give this living room a strong identity.

Defined Seating Area

A dark seagrass area rug anchors and defines the living room’s spacious seating area. The rug coordinates with the rich colors used for this inviting space, designed for entertaining and soaking in all the beauty of this spectacular Colorado location.

Checked Out

Buffalo check drapery frames the large glass doors that provide easy access to the deck outside. “Because we’re up in the mountains and things are rugged and rustic up here, that’s why you’re going to see a lot of buffalo check,” says designer Brian Patrick Flynn.

Charming Chairs

A pair of upholstered armchairs made from solid wood have bobbin front legs, arms, back frame and spindles that create a charming look.

Flexible Seating

The combination of the dual sofas and upholstered armchairs provides flexible seating for both large and small gatherings. The living room’s open layout allows for good flow, and easy access to key indoor and outdoor spaces.

Stay Safe

A motion sensor discreetly placed in a corner of the living room is engineered to detect motion within 30 feet. Part of the home’s wireless security system, the pet-friendly sensor picks up the unique heat signature of humans and sends an alert to a monitoring center, who will dispatch police when an intruder has been detected.

Engineered to Protect

An indoor wireless security camera that detects motion also provides peace of mind, placed on a solid wood end table by one of the living room’s two sofas. The security camera includes a stainless-steel privacy shutter that gives you complete control over your privacy.

The camera’s internal microphone, HD video and night vision help you keep an eye on your home 24/7, from your smartphone, tablet, or computer.

A glass door off the living room opens to the expansive deck outside, that spans the length of the home. Enjoy amazing views, while soaking in all the beauty of the Colorado landscape.

In addition to the HGTV Dream Home 2023 in Morrison, Colorado, this year’s winner also receives a check for $100,000.

Celebrating Colorado

Artist Karen Musgraves, who created the whimsical dinosaur art that brings bold personality to this open living room, also created this custom pop art that celebrates the active lifestyle of Colorado.

Six Essentials

A pair of binoculars, compass, sun hat, and fly-fishing lure are some of the images featured in this custom pop art. “It’s six essentials that you would have for the lifestyle that’s offered here in Colorado, where everybody’s outside and super active,” says designer Brian Patrick Flynn.

Three Zones

The living room’s proximity to the open dining room and kitchen allows for easy entertaining. “The great room is made up of three zones,” says designer Brian Patrick Flynn. “The actual living room area, the dining space which is where the fireplace is, and then the kitchen, which is massive.”

Statement Chandelier

This view from the living room highlights the huge almost 7-foot in diameter industrial-style chandelier that commands attention over this incredible space with layers of style.
