Photos From 'Good Bones' Star Mina Starsiak's Dream Wedding
When it comes to throwing a wedding, Mina (now Mina Starsiak Hawk, officially) does it with style and aplomb. Indianapolis photographer Mallory Talty of Stereoscope Photography was there to record the whole thing in a photo essay that blends atmospheric portraits, impromptu snapshots and skillful documentary style. Presented here with limited captioning. These pictures (and that dress!) speak for themselves.

Practice Makes Perfect. The bride and groom show off some of the dance floor skills they mastered during the 10+ lessons taken at Starlite Ballroom in preparation for their wedding. “They were so fun but also hard,” she said. “I took ballroom dancing at IU, and I like to think I’m a good dancer but that’s not the case.” The couple was determined that their first dance at the reception be flawless. This photo, by the way, was one of Mina's favorites from the wedding according to her Instagram post.

Mina called herself a “laid-back” bride who wasn’t too nervous about much of the ceremony or reception, even entrusting a few friends to help with little details, like her shoes. “They went to T.J. Maxx the day before the wedding and they came back with three pairs of shoes, all under $30,” Mina said.

Officiating the Ceremony. As some dedicated HGTV fans already know, Mina's mom Karen is something of a renaissance woman. Not only does she renovate houses and co-host a TV series, she's also an attorney and a licensed minister. With credentials like that, the choice of who would perform the wedding was an easy one. “She loves doing it, and it was way more meaningful than some random person doing it,” Mina said. “Plus, everything that I do has a budgetary aspect, and she was free-ninety-nine. She did really well.”

Here Comes the Bride
Ceremony and Celebration
Mina and Stephen read promises to one another, a contemporary alternative to traditional vows. At the altar, Stephen, who Mina says is a “big softie,” asked Karen in advance for some assistance in reading his promises to Mina after he felt his nerves start to kick in. “She told me when Stephen was waiting up at the front, he was like, ‘I don’t know if I am going to be able to do this. If I can’t do them, will you?’” Mina said. “She’s like, well, no, you’ll be able to do them.” Spoiler alert: He did.

First Dance
Before hitting the dance floor, Mina and Stephen went to the side of the building to practice a particularly difficult spin in their routine and ended up with a small wardrobe malfunction. “My hand slipped out of his, and I busted his button on his suit jacket,” she said. The real first dance went much better, with no safety pins required afterward.

Who Needs Cake
...when you can have donuts?!
In lieu of a traditional wedding cake, Mina and Stephen opted for 400 donuts from Long's Bakery — an Indianapolis institution that was recently named to a list of the 33 best donut shops in the US. Food options were also plentiful, with Chicago-style hot dogs, tacos and mini sliders on the menu for guests to tap into throughout the night. “We wanted the whole wedding to be a party,” Mina said.
