Color and Texture Add Sophistication and Style to Small Apartment

The gorgeous living area shows off a 700-square-foot apartment's top-to-bottom transformation — which included a new kitchen and bath, new furniture and closet upgrades. The designers explain that their goal was two-fold: "One, match the design with the personality of our client, a young woman with a bubbly personality, and, two, maximize storage. The result was a hyperfunctional and ultrafeminine living space."

BEFORE: Living Room

The living area before redesign is waiting for an identity.

BEFORE: Kitchen Range Wall

The kitchen before redesign was dated and drab.

Gold and Black Stainless Accents for a Tiny Kitchen in Pink, White and Gray

A stunning marble counter and subtle gray backsplash joins white Shaker-style cabinetry and black stainless appliances. The range hood surround is painted in the wall color — a delicate pink, and a cute midcentury globe light in frosted glass and gold is a lovely accompaniment to the gold cabinet pulls. This adorable kitchen sacrifices no style because of its small size

Marble Countertops Meet White Cabinets in Pretty Pink Kitchen

In this tiny kitchen, the black-stainless oven's range hood is painted a delicate pink to conform with the exposed wall above the gray backsplash. The beautiful veining in the gray countertop ties the backsplash to the white Shaker-style cabinets for a timeless look.

BEFORE: Kitchen Sink Wall

Before redesign, the kitchen sink wall shared with the living area had two interruptions and the upper cabinets were on the range wall.

Pony Wall Makeover Includes Marble Top and Shelf

By relocating the upper cabinetry to the sink wall, the kitchen is both aesthetically balanced and more efficient. A sweet shelf with black-metal framing and rustic wood planks is mounted at the top of the pony wall. A gold faucet supplies an undermount stainless sink and beautiful gray-veined white marble is used for both the pony wall cap and the kitchen counters.

BEFORE: Entry

The entry before redesign was not a friendly welcome.

Colorful Wallpaper a Tribute to Client's Personality and Location

Colorful, DC-centric wallpaper is used in the entryway for a cheerful (and appropriate) welcome to this Georgetown pad. The wallpaper tones help dictate the accent colors used, including the teal of the door and the pale pink of the molding and primary wall color elsewhere in the apartment. A floating acrylic shelf accommodates keys under a classy round mirror thinly framed in gold.

BEFORE: Closet

The closet before redesign was a prominent and unattractive part of the entry.

Sizeable Entry Closet Disguised in Dazzling Color

The redesigned closet is hardly visible, with flat-panel doors cleverly wallpapered to disappear and add formality to the entry. The designers chose a DC-centric wallpaper for this entry to add color and whimsy and to signal the tone of the rest of the home. A round gold-frame mirror over an acrylic floating shelf serves as a minimalist entry console.

Texture and Shape Play Together in Cheerful Living Room

The 700-square-foot apartment is chock-full of furnishings with movement and visual interest. An octagonal cabinet with a herringbone veneer front is paired with a brass-legged armchair in a black-and-white fleck in the living room. A stone-finished garden stool and black-and-gold metal floor lamp ensure a favorite reading nook.

White Built-In Banquette for Cozy Dining Corner

The client's roommate reposes on a white built-in banquette, appropriately accommodated in the living room corner that borders the kitchen. A simple white table and pair of gold chairs with slubby fabric accompany the banquette, which is garnished in throw pillows in bold and lush fabrics.

Friendly Living Area Offers Cozy Corner Dining and Single Bar

The living room is furnished with a corner banquette, paired with two midcentury chairs around a simple round table. The original window in the kitchen wall is reimagined as a built-in shelf and attired in a fun black-and-white wallpaper. The pony wall is now a one-person bar, topped in an elegant marble and fashioned with a hanging shelf of metal and wood. An Asian-style stool attends.

Pattern and Personality in Dining Corner's Recessed Shelf

A simple teardrop pendant delicately adorns the dining corner. A former window to the kitchen is reimagined as shelving and papered in a fun black-and-white pattern, serving as a lively contrast to the soft pink wall color. The white banquette offers hidden storage for both dining and working and is furnished with large throw pillows in lush fabrics of cream, dusky rose and maroon.

Seating and Storage in Beautiful Dining Banquette

A teardrop swag lamp with midcentury sensibilities serves as light source for this pretty dining corner in the living space. Colorful artwork is showcased in white mats and frames for maximum impact against soft pink walls. The multifunctional banquette provides seating and storage and this corner is ready for both eating and work.

Shy Pink Walls Promote Colorful Furnishings in Vibrant and Charming Living Room

A metal-and-glass bookshelf divides dining from living room with books cleverly arranged to contribute color to the space. An attractive sofa with thin brass legs in an ocean-blue linen fabric makes a stunning statement against the soft pink wall.

BEFORE: Living Room Patio Wall

The living room before redesign was contractor beige.

Ocean Blue Sectional in Personality-Filled Living Room Ready

The redesigned living room is furnished with a gorgeous, L-shaped sectional sofa in an ocean-blue fabric and a midcentury armchair in a black-and-white fleck. A fun gold coffee table and malachite-and-brass end table join a stunning octagonal credenza with geometric wood veneer. The designers explain their process: "We combined bold patterns, vibrant colors and textural finishings to create a sophisticated and stylish apartment."

BEFORE: Bedroom

The bedroom before redesign has a good amount of light and is now ready for its style infusion.

Bedroom's Art Deco Wallpaper a Hollywood Sensation

The bedroom is attired in a distinctive Art Deco wallpaper with teal and gold arches on a soft pink background. Neutral nightstands accompany a sumptuously clothed bed, with its delicately arched headboard featuring nailhead trim.

Bedroom's Art Deco Wallpaper Lends Depth and Dimension

Brightly colored bedding borrows attitude from dramatic pale-pink Art Deco wallpaper with bold teal and gold arches, giving the illusion of relief. Ceramic stacked-ball table lamps with white shades sit atop a pair of woven-textured nightstands that flank the nailhead-trimmed headboard. Their neutral tones offer an understated accent between the assertive neighbors of bedding and wall.

Vibrant Color Joins Crisp Neutrals in Bathroom

A client with a bubbly personality is well-represented in the bathroom renovation and redesign. Hollywood vanity globe lights bookend a gold-framed medicine cabinet above a striking open-shelf vanity in royal blue. Gold hardware adorns the vanity to match the faucet and mirror. An understated and timeless gray-marble vanity top joins the floor to allow the more flamboyant features of this bathroom to take center stage.

Small Space but Storage Galore in Bright and Inviting Bathroom

Black-and-white wallpaper lines a shallow floating cabinet, providing storage for styling products in the redesigned bathroom. A trio of artwork with white mats and frames contribute more color against their white background. Gold accents dazzle in the reimagined space.

Gold Accents Moderate Between Neutrals and Vivids in Striking Bathroom

Vibrant pink and blue cabinetry lend personality and flair to a bathroom kept spacious by neutral walls. The subtly veined marble vanity top and floor harmonize beautifully with the shower's honeycomb mosaic.

BEFORE: Bath

The bathtub before redesign was a midcentury built-in.

Honeycomb Mosaic With Gold Detailing an Elegant Choice for the Beautiful Bathroom Shower

The marble bathroom shower is entirely enclosed in a gorgeous honeycomb mosaic. The corner bench and linear shower drain are tiled to match the vanity. Gold shower fixtures, towel rod and niche trim lend an elegant touch.
