Miami-bred and Los Angeles-based, Barbie is the principal of Barbie Palomino Design Studio. Armed with a business degree and searching for career love, she hoarded dog-eared issues of shelter magazines for three years before falling for Interior Design. Her not-so-secret love affair with beautiful furnishings and objects eventually led her West for professional training to bolster her natural talents. She studied Interior Design in 2006 at FIDM in LA before landing a job with a hospitality firm. It was there she developed a unique high-low aesthetic enabling her to devise spaces that are eclectic, approachable, and visually appealing.
After several positions ranging from Project Manager to Lead Designer, she co-founded BAM Design Lab in 2012. BAM juggles high-end projects that run the gamut from minimalist contemporary to idiosyncratic flash, always staying true to the client’s individual style and personality.
Barbie designs with the philosophy that interiors influence us in even the minutia of our everyday lives – where we drop our keys, take off our shoes or rest our heads are all decisions that can incorporate style, luxury and comfort into highly functional and livable spaces. Among her favorite elements are natural woods, vintage rugs, mixed metals, woven baskets, and almost anything midcentury modern. She prefers everything and the kitchen sink – Layering period and modern furnishings with custom-made pieces, shiny objects, and contemporary artworks.
When she’s not stalking your Instagram, Barbie spends her time with her rad husband and handsome Pomeranian. They love literal walks in the park and markets of both the flea and farmer’s variety.
