Home decor blogger Amy Buchanan started with a yard sale table and layered in pieces such as a tobacco stick star, a pinecone garland and a frame from an old dresser. Ticking ribbon and wooden Christmas trees painted to look like old grain sacks are in keeping with the farmhouse theme. "I love collecting vintage items throughout the year, then mixing them together to create rustic and farm-style vignettes," says Buchanan, who blogs at AttaGirlSays.

Extra Touches

Dress up a pair of vintage skates by lacing them with festive ribbon. Search yard sales, flea markets and secondhand stores for old skates you can use in decor, suggests blogger Amy Buchanan of AttaGirlSays. She adds: You'll find the best deals on winter items, such as skates, in the off-season.

Group Lanterns

Cluster a trio of oversized lanterns together and fill them with greenery, candles, lights, nativity figures or special ornaments. Home decor blogger Amy Buchanan of AttaGirlSays likes to hang wreaths on the lanterns to add color and texture.

Coordinated Look

A North Carolina front porch features a vintage lantern with a bow, a pine cone garland over the door and an evergreen wreath with a fancy ticking bow (that matches the lantern bow). The faux trees in urns are decorated with handmade painted birch bark ornaments and frosted shatterproof balls. It's decorated by craft and home decor blogger Amy Buchanan of AttaGirlSays.

Holiday-Style Terrarium

A terrarium made from old windows and architectural elements is a great place to display holiday greenery, a nativity, ornaments, plants or outdoor candles. Home decor blogger Amy Buchanan of AttaGirlSays also clipped greenery and holly berries from her yard for this terrarium on her front porch, which contributes to the rustic style with vintage appeal.

The Touch of Cotton

A wreath with real cotton is illuminated by vintage lanterns on an Atlanta front door. Lisa Turner and Wallace Bryan with Trinity Mercantile & Design Co. in Decatur, Ga., used cotton and magnolia leaves as natural elements in the front entryway and throughout the home for their Mississippi-themed holiday decor.

Wish Upon a Star

Pieces of a palette were reconstructed by interior decorator Krystine Edwards to create a blank canvas for a star (made out of a festive ribbon) on this rustic Charleston, S.C., porch. It's above a bar cart decorated with a nutcracker, Mason jars, wire bottle holder and ornaments.

Underneath a Portico

A bracket portico designed by Atlanta Decking and Fence, and a vintage-looking light fixture add rustic Craftsman charm to this bungalow's curb appeal throughout the year. Hunter green paint is used for the shutters and portico. The homeowners decorated with small trees in containers holding red and gold ornaments and a festive ball wreath.

Darling DIY Project

A variety of rustic elements are on display on this porch, including wagons made of crates, and accessories such as an old Coca-Cola bottle crate. The red, green and blue wagons were a DIY project by blogger Jenna LeFeron of Rain on a Tin Roof for Crates & Pallet, an Atlanta-based company.

Quaint Cottage

A cottage in the charming historic town of Madison, Ga., features a red, white and green color palette with homespun style. The owner is from Denmark and used a Danish Christmas theme starting at the front porch. The home was on Madison's 2015 Town & Country Holiday Tour of Homes.

Pinecones and LEDs

For the front porch of her new Rhode Island home, blogger Alison Vinciguerra of the blog Long Distance Loving used a wreath pre-decorated with pine cones, holly leaves, gold feathers and fruit. She wove white LED twinkle lights into the wreath and garland near a vintage-looking lantern.

Dashing Reindeer Decor

Deer are not just holiday appropriate but often used as a way to add rustic and farmhouse style to a front yard and porch. For the holidays, options include carved wood deer, antler decor and illuminated reindeer of all sizes, offered by retailers such as The Home Depot.

Sporty Style

Accessorizing with vintage winter sporting equipment, such as skis, snowshoes, a sled and skates, gives a rustic cottage appearance to a North Carolina front porch decorated by blogger Amy Buchanan of AttaGirlSays. The sports equipment join yard sale finds, including the table, vintage wooden toolbox and the dresser frame.

Woodsy Glow

Birch log luminaries grouped together are a natural, rustic element for a front porch. To create them, cut the branches into varying heights with a circular saw. Next, drill holes into the top of each log using a 1-1/2" paddle or spade bit just deep enough to accommodate a votive. For kid- or pet-proof illumination, pop a battery-operated votive into each.
