Few things are as classic Americana as an Airstream. While other campers and RVs have attempted to be as trendy yet timeless, Airstream campers take the cake. Really — it can be hard for the untrained eye to tell a vintage Airstream from a new one because the design has changed so little.

Maybe that's why remodeling and customizing Aistreams has become so popular. Whether you take it back to original or put your spin on it, it's hard to cramp an Airstream's style. Here are some of our favorite Airstream photos.

Airstream trailers are the ultimate way to see the sights from coast to coast, but they don't have to be road-worthy to be a worthwhile investment — as long as you can get it to its final destination, the design possibilities are endless. Designer and entrepreneur David Kowalski transformed this 1974 Argosy camper into a cozy, comfortable guest suite.

In his 1974 Argosy guest suite project, David Kowalski prioritized function in the kitchen without sacrificing form. The butcher block countertop is easy to clean, and the open space below houses a mini fridge and plenty of storage.

Because this Airstream guest suite is permanently parked, guests can spend mornings watching the sunrise with a cup of coffee from the lounge area along a wall of windows. And at the end of the day, this spot is excellent for enjoying wine or cocktails.

Seattle-born interior designer Melanie Raver totally gutted her Airstream, transforming it into a rolling work of art with bold colors and effortless boho style.

Like David Kowalski's '74 model, Melanie Raver's 1973 Airstream Argosy features a painted exterior. According to Melanie, the two-toned orange-and-white vintage appeal initially got her husband’s attention and reminded him of a vintage VW bus.

Inside, the Airstream is light, bright and airy with a dash of boho influence. The updated Airstream kitchen looks nothing like the original and proves how rewarding a little extra mental effort can be when designing a space. The intelligent design means that it works perfectly for the family of five and gives them the space and storage they require.

“At the lumberyard, we were introduced to a local woodworker who loved our project and agreed to take on the task of making our countertops,” says Melanie Raver. By taking this clever route, she was able to get bespoke countertops made to her exact specifications for a fraction of the price. She chose to show the wood's face grain rather than the more durable end grain in order to highlight the blond streaks she loves so much. The best feature, however, may be the removable cutting board that turns the sink into usable counter space.

This shiny Airstream, available to rent on AirBnB, was designed by Kim Lewis and dubbed "Casita Coyote." While the outside maintains its quintessential Airstream look, the inside has been totally reimagined.

Inside designer Kim Lewis' overhauled Airstream, a galley kitchen makes the most of the long, narrow space. Wooden countertops and pink cabinets are accented by green tile and an orange-red wall with a handpainted wolf howling at the moon.

Pure Salt Interiors' take on an Airstream's remodel turned it into a bright, comfortable home. The full kitchen with modern upper storage and white cabinetry provides plenty of storage, while the silver metal steel ceiling reflects light. A skylight provides filtered light through blinds.

It’s one thing to dream about renovating an old Airstream trailer and it’s quite another (massive) undertaking to actually find one and see it through. Siya Zarrabi and Kristen Sarah, the two Canadians behind travel blog Hopscotch the Globe, spent months renovating theirs before driving it all over the United States and Canada.

With an open floor plan and smart usage of natural light, Luna the Airstream looks and feels far more spacious than it really is. The kitchen is full-featured, with an oven, stove, fridge and important extras like a blender. When the kitchen window is open, the sink faucet can swivel and become an outdoor shower.

As writers, filmmakers and bloggers, Kristen and Siya have outfitted their Airstream to be a mobile office as well as a house. There are about 18 USB ports throughout, Siya says, and they have a mobile internet hotspot so they can send files from the road.

Since this is their primary living space, Kristen and Siya splurged on making every corner as beautiful as possible, including the bathroom. The door is on a sliding track to minimize floor space needed around it, and a Plexiglas window in the shower allows ample natural light. “We wanted it to be an almost spa-like experience in our bathroom," says Siya.
