It's not what most people envision doing by the beach, but Hotel del Coronado in San Diego sets up a rink along the Pacific Ocean for holiday ice skating. The year 2014 marked the 11th year that hotel has had the rink on its lawn, with views of Coronado beach and sunsets over the ocean.

New Year's Eve fireworks add festive flair to Philadelphia's riverfront rink. A winter garden made of illuminated trees and shrubs, wood chips and fire pits surrounds the rink, which is part of the Blue Cross RiverRink Winterfest from November-March annually.
Windy City Wonderland
Shimmering trees surround the McCormick Tribune Ice Rink in Chicago's Millennium Park, which attracts 100,000 skaters annually. It's open typically from mid-November to early March. The park opened in 2001 on Chicago's famed Michigan Avenue.

At Keystone Resort in Colorado, the five-acre lake serves as an outdoor skating rink with spectacular views.
Massive in the Mountains
Colorado's Evergreen Lake is the largest outdoor Zamboni-maintained ice rink in North America. The rink spans 8.5 acres, bordered by mountains. It's open typically from mid-December to mid-March.
Peaceful Park
There's an unpretentious setting for skating at Woodland Park in Kalispell, Mont. The park becomes an ice skating rink in the winter, with an old-fashioned warming hut.
