Be Your Own Designer

The lifestyle/fashion/home digital creator Kellie Brown would like to let you know that you don’t have to be an interior designer to create a unique, stylish home. “It’s really just about identifying what you like,” she says.

And she’s proud to show what she likes through her brand, Deeply Madly Modern, across various digital platforms. Her lifestyle YouTube channel (where followers can also find Home Decor Homies home tour videos), Amazon shop, Instagram and TikTok, along with her online store, provide glimpses into how she collects and curates the fashions, furnishings and thrifted finds that showcase her design style.

An Appreciation of Style

Kellie, who was born and raised in Philadelphia, credits her parents for their influence that shapes her outlook in home design and style, "a hodgepodge," she calls it, of antique and modern furnishings. “I was heavily influenced by Mom. She was always changing the paint color, adding in art. We always used to go to flea markets together,” Kellie says. “And my Dad had beautiful taste. They were just really proud of their home and loved to decorate it and take care of it. So I grew up really appreciating the things around me.”

Collected, Curated

Kellie launched her career in marketing and public relations in New York with her online presence focusing on beauty, decor and plus-size fashion and style. She moved to Los Angeles in 2019, which she described as "less hectic than New York" in a YouTube video. Deeply Madly Modern focuses on style and home décor, and her home in LA reflects those interests.

“I set out to make a space that felt collected, really art-inspired,” she says. “Initially, the space felt gallery-like, it felt lofty, and so I want a comfortable art gallery.” The space is decorated with vintage furniture and collectibles, her own paintings, and favorite special pieces from contemporary artists. “I think it’s really about curation, collecting. The intention is that it makes me feel good, whatever that means.”

In a Green, Good Mood

The focal point in the living space is a large, pillowy sofa upholstered in a soft, eco-friendly fabric in a color dubbed “Bonsai.” “It’s modern but cozy, soft-edged, something you feel like you can just collapse onto,” Kellie says. “Green is my favorite color, and it puts me in a really good mood.” It also sets the tone for the rest of the room, with other pieces in wood, glass and other neutrals to balance out the design.
