HGTV Editors’ Favorite Paint Colors of 2024

Paint shades from every corner of the color wheel inspired the HGTV editors this year. Take a look at our top picks and get inspired to use one (or more!) of these stunning paints in your home.

First up, enchanting Hidden Forest by Behr. This nature-inspired shade strikes the right chord between moody and whimsical. As seen in this kitchen designed by Jennifer Decleene, it pairs well with marble and wood and serves as a chic backdrop for wall art.

It doesn't get more classic than Mondrian Blue by Behr. In a timeless bathroom like this white one with mosiac penny tile (from blogger Jennifer Griffin), this primary blue adds a serious pop of color without straying too far from tradition.

Lavender Lipstick by Benjamin Moore isn't your childhood bedroom's version of pale purple. "This shade of lavender feels mature," says Sidney Lee, assistant home editor, HGTV Magazine. "It's the perfect combination of chic and playful. Plus, I love how the designer, Lauren Robbins, went for it in this space — drenching the walls, trim and built-ins in the paint."

You don't have to go all-in with color to create a dramatic look in your space. "I love how designer Carmeon Hamilton used Burgundy by Sherwin-Williams to highlight the lower portion of the room in the HGTV Urban Oasis 2024, then incorporated matching accents, like the curtains and velvet headboard, to continue the color story throughout," says Chelsea Faulkner, social media editor, HGTV home giveaways. "The room feels bold and luxurious without being too dark or heavy."

This hue from Donald Kaufman Color is the perfect timeless shade of chartreuse. "White or black would have been a much safer choice," says Jami Supsic, home and style director, HGTV Magazine. "And so much more boring." In this stunning bathroom (designed by Story Street Studio), "this paint unites the glam feel of the rest of the layers, like the speckled wallpaper, riveted mirror and geometric flooring," says Jami.

Navy blue never goes out of style, so it's no surprise Rain Cloud by Sherwin-Williams is an editor-favorite for 2024. Equal parts moody and classic, this gray-tinted navy blue is both trendy and timeless. In this small home office (designed by Berkeley Minkhorst and Kelley Lentini of House of Nomad), the dark paint and matching curtains make this room feel more luxurious and spacious.

Another navy topped our list for 2024, but this time with a bold teal twist: New Providence Navy by Benjamin Moore. "I find deep, moody colors super relaxing, and this one also has a hint of brightness that makes it really interesting," says Juliana LaBianca, deputy features editor, HGTV Magazine. "My favorite part of the room is the matching sofa," she says of this space designed by Brittany Hakimfar. "I would read so many books in this little nook!"

Deep and moody hues cetainly captured the editors' attention this year — but so did vibrant ones. And it doesn't get much more vibrant than Coral Gables by Benjamin Moore. In this bedroom from blogger Stacey-Ann Blake, "this color really brightens up the room," says Rachel Barker, photo director, HGTV Magazine. "It would be hard not to wake up feeling cheerful every morning."

A favorite from the HGTV Home by Sherwin-Williams collection for 2024: buttery and warm Friendly Yellow. "Friendly Yellow is a cheerful hue that makes any room feel like a breath of fresh air," says Lauren Fansler, photo manager and designer liaison, HGTV.com. "I love how this yellow is not too strong — it's just the right amount of color."

Breakfast Room Green by Farrow & Ball would look great in a breakfast room, of course, but we love this mossy, midtone shade for any room — especially a cozy bedroom like this one from Cass Smith.

Redend Point by Sherwin-Williams was the brand's 2023 Color of the Year, but blush-tinted beiges and taupes are still a color trend we love. This entryway from Hana Irfan shows how this shade brings warmth and visual interest while remaining neutral.

One of our favorite paint colors is on display inside the HGTV Smart Home 2024. Designer Tiffany Brooks used Cocoon by HGTV Home by Sherwin-Williams to create an ultra-luxurious bedroom. "The moment I walked into this space, I wanted to curl up in the bed and never leave," says Chelsea. "This paint color would also be beautiful on interior doors or as wainscoting," she suggests.
