Almost-Black Colors We Love

This dining area features a unique wallpaper mural and a velvet banquette in a rich, midnight blue. The space is accented by lighter whites and natural elements like a bamboo lamp and shades and a graphic jute rug.

This bathroom, painted in a dark, deep teal color, is a showstopper. Teal complements mixed wood and black elements and adds a refreshing look when paired with terra cotta tile.

Vintage indigo blue fabrics, like the textiles on this sofa, are another great almost-black option. These textiles have been around for a few decades and are made by African tribes who hand dye each piece and sew them together to create blankets and throws. Indigo blue pairs well with nearly any other color, as shown in this bright, eclectic space.

The master bedroom in HGTV's Dream Home 2011 features an unexpected, rich cranberry wall color. The dark color works great with the other wood elements in the room, as well as neutral items including the chair, rug, and bedding. The room feels like a warm cup of apple cider with a spicy cinnamon stick on the side.

Despite the darker colors featured, this dining room has a feeling of light airiness. The smoky gray rug, dark wood table and chairs, and light fixture are Team Almost-Black while the white walls and fluffy sheepskin easily manage to calm the space down and prevent it from feeling too heavy.

Dark red is a great deep shade if you want to bring some warmth into a space. The deep red rug and throw beautifully reflect the brown tones of the wood ceiling. Cinnamon is not quite red and not quite orange, like the desk in this minimalist office from the A 1000x Better team. This shade works well with other warm colors. Light floors and walls balance everything out.
