What Could You Add to Your Bath?

Some would argue that a showstopping soak of one’s own is an extravagance; bath devotees know better. You don’t have to fish dead bugs or small woodland creatures out of it; you don’t have to pay someone to pour chemicals into it or share it with strangers who noticed you at the resort bar and like your vibe. As doctors explain, baths help us exfoliate (because our skin has more time to soften than it does in the shower), de-stress, prepare for sleep and soothe aching muscles and joints, all on top of getting us clean. With all due respect to other home upgrades, can installing new kitchen countertops do any of that?

We’re celebrating (figuratively) overflowing tubs, tubs designed by folks who paged through lookbooks of chandeliers, custom tile, statement windows and hand-sculpted hardware and said, “Hold my bubble bath.” Think of the tub as an ongoing investment in inner peace that you don’t need a passport, spa membership or bathing suit to enjoy. Use our inspiration to cultivate your own version of these high-end beauties, and soak in good health.

Fireside Style and a Smoky, See-Through Tub

Tasked with creating a bath suite that would woo big-ticket buyers in Las Vegas, Mina Starsiak Hawk and Vernon Davis went for broke and created what could be Rock the Block’s sexiest bathing space yet. This sealed-in steam shower features a long, low double-sided fireplace that connects to the bedroom, velvety microcement that gives the wall and ceiling touchable texture and a moody acrylic tub that delivers desert heat.

The Ultimate Rustic Retreat

At the other end of the aesthetic spectrum, consider this tub’s terroir: Nestled at the center of a contemporary mountain home in a Utah aspen forest, the bath suite features a freestanding charcoal soaker atop limestone floor tiles surrounded by craggy Montana moss rock. Location is the luxury here, and the warm minimalism of the room’s finishes — plus pops of character like the wrought-iron vintage chandelier equipped with Edison bulbs and centered above the tub — let natural grandeur take center stage.

Stone-Cold Chic

The high-contrast striation on the sleek stone tiles in this modern Texas bath suite, in turn, give a two-dimensional feature wall visual texture to complement its 500-pound concrete soaking tub. The bold silhouettes and moody tones here are all about balance: The window’s width matches the tub’s, and its height provides privacy while bathing the tub area in natural light. A linear chandelier and a stool stained to match the floating vanity’s rich tone are all the accessories this mineral magnificence needs.

A Reading Nook, But Make It Splashy

With a pastoral woodland view, generous skylights, trend-conscious color drenching and opulent finishes, this stylish bath suite is full of delights. That said, our favorite flourish of all is, somehow, the cheery black-and-white gingham curtains? That unexpected pattern choice gives the lozenge-shaped tub the cozy character of an upholstered window seat, and this soaking spot feels like the perfect place to page through a vacation read.

Symmetry and Niche Appeal

Rock the Block champions Kim Wolfe and Chelsea Meissner made their brand-new Vegas build feel moody and unique by building their spaces around impactful antiques and dramatic finishes. They placed this pedestal tub at the center of their bath suite to divide its vanities and make it the space’s focal point; its dark, reflective finish doubles the drama of the high-contrast marble they installed underfoot. The 1920s fireplace insert they centered in the wall behind the tub isn’t attached to a gas line, nor does it need to be; topped with a an antique shield and filled with pillar candles, it’s a showstopping style moment just as it is.

Power Wash

Speaking of reflective pedestal tubs, how about the high-gloss mirrored chrome finish on the soaker in this bold-as-you please bath? This eclectic room is exciting rather than disorienting because features like the pale, neutral stone floor tile, solid Roman shades and low-contrast vanity offer moments to catch your breath in between appreciations of the super-saturated still life, chinoiserie-silhouette wall covering and zebra-print rococo vanity stool.

Moody, Masculine Patterns

HGTV Dream Home 2026’s principal bath suite deploys rich tones, satisfying symmetry and geometric and suiting-inspired details to evoke the indulgence of a well-tailored jacket. The Roman shade’s plaid pattern, the black stone hexagons on the floor, the sisal runner’s concentric diamonds and the vanities’ fluted faces share similar scales and add visual texture without shrieking for attention. The deep gray-brown wall color, in turn, feels dark and warm all at once.

Monogrammed Monochrome

This traditional bath owes its crisp elegance to the intricate, waterjet-cut black and white marble laid throughout the suite to anchor the design. The black marble’s strong lines carry through the high-contrast hardware on the arched window visible through the arch framing the pedestal tub itself, and both the tub’s and the window’s graceful curves recur on the hand towels’ custom embroidery. The vanity mirrors’ classic Deco-inspired silhouettes, in turn, echo the flooring’s angles. Leaning into strong, stylized border designs like these provides definition that retain the suite’s airiness without washing out its architectural details.

Shower Stall as Feature Wall

The bold black-and-grey shower tiles centered on this stylish contemporary bath suite’s rear wall perform double duty as a statement feature for the lozenge-shaped soaking tub centered in the foreground, since the shower’s three frameless glass walls collapse the visual distance between the two features. That two-tone intricacy recurs on the wide embroidered trim at the bottom of each white Roman shade, and the shower’s circular brushed-nickel hardware is the same size and shape as the bubbles in the chandelier positioned above the tub. Even better, those curves appear again at the table perched beside the soaker — and in the mottled charcoal glazing on the vase it’s holding.

Penthouse Style in a Private Retreat

Taniya Nayak and Drew Lachey leaned on Taniya’s experience with unexpected hospitality-industry architecture to create this glassless wet-room-within-a-room for their Rock the Block home’s primary bath suite. The wrought iron within their dramatic interior arch complements both the sleek black soaking tub they installed on a pedestal beside a picture window and the luxurious black marble they carried across the floor. The warm, neutral tiles they arranged in vertical soldier stacks on the wall, in turn, is meant to evoke the high-end spaces one might find nearby at luxury hotels on the Las Vegas strip — minus their gaudiness.

Black-and-White Drama

Anchored with large-scale, traditional black-and-white checkered marble flooring and paneled wainscoting, this eclectic bath sticks to a limited palette and goes wild with playful-yet-coordinated details like its flush-mount Murano glass chandelier, framed photograph, sculptural end table, cheetah-patterned Roman shade and intricately-carved vanity. There’s texture and detail everywhere you look in this bathing space, but its visual cohesion makes it feel lively rather than exhausting.

Modern Mediterranean

This freestanding soaking tub’s striking black exterior is the central pop of contrast signaling its updated take on classic Mediterranean silhouettes and materials. The stone-lined, double-shouldered arch leading from the bathing and vanity area to the darker double shower stall echoes the graceful curve of the tub’s lip; the tub’s matte black face, in turn, complements the vanity cabinets’ contemporary black handles.

Organic Style + Irregular Sculpture

This lakeside Texas home’s neutral contemporary bath foregrounds and celebrates both clean finishes and natural variation. The pale, waterfall-edge stone slabs of its solid-surface double vanity, white oak door and cabinets and barely-there plate-glass shower are all characteristically modern choices; its swooping, standalone ceramic soaking tub, hand-carved chair and well-weathered exposed ceiling beams, on the other hand, all feel like elements of an outdoor sculpture garden.

Shoreside Slipper Tub

Intimate Farmhouse Alcove

Striking a sophisticated balance between stately, transitional architecture and feminine flora and accessories, this shapely double slipper tub is the centerpiece of an alcove with symmetrical shelving to either side, warm wood ceiling panels and just-so foliage (courtesy of a potted olive tree and casually-arranged greenery in a vase on an occasional table). The bath suite’s off-white plaster walls differ gently from its window hardware, molding and warm stone flooring; to cultivate a rustic-yet-genteel atmosphere like this, combine off-white tones and look to interrupt architectural symmetry with softly mismatched accents.

Immersive Architecture

This breathtaking, minimalistic evolution of the platform tubs that gained popularity in the ‘80s and ‘90s is as graceful as they were clunky; here, book-matched marble rises up the curved wall behind the tub and maintains that perfect symmetry across its wide upper surface and curved face. Thanks to the generous proportions of those horizontal slabs, a bather here has no need for an occasional table; there’s plenty of room in every direction.

Contemporary Spa Chic

With a monumental, cauldron-like ebony tub perched beside a glass-walled sauna lined with cedar and Himalayan salt bricks, a book-matched feature wall of gorgeously-veined marble and proportions that exceed some entire homes, this primary bath suite is better-appointed than many professional spas. Might these homeowners be in need of a housesitter’s services?

Après-Ski Retreat

This Montana vacation home’s bathing chamber frames its freestanding soaking tub with both opulent marble subway tiles (in the glass-walled walk-in shower to its right) and log-cabin authenticity (thanks to the exposed materials on the feature wall behind it and the beams spanning the pitched ceiling overhead). Striking a balance between rustic character and material opulence is, here, all about the half-step between them: Because the suite’s ceiling and the shower’s exterior face feature white shiplap, they soften the transition from Bunyanesque building materials to city-slicker opulence.

Island Idyll

This waterside retreat on Whidbey Island in Puget Sound demonstrates how beautifully natural views can inform a space’s design without sacrificing privacy or style. Translucent fabric on the lower portion of the windows behind the angular, freestanding soaking tub admit light and the spectacular sight of lush rainforest; at the foot of the tub on the right side of the room, a full-length window offers an uninterrupted view of the coast. Frameless mirrors and glass pair with stone countertops and flooring to add understated luxury that doesn’t detract from the space’s most magnificent natural assets.

Traditional Jewel Box With Patterns and Precious Stone

The principal suite at this manicured countryside estate features layered and pitch-perfect fixtures and accessories to offer a 21st-century bather all the atmosphere of an historic weekend at a well-monied relation’s sprawling property. Intricate white-on-silver botanical wallpaper above traditional white subway tile and a marble mosaic inlaid beside the garden tub lend it a feel of timelessness; consistent electricity and built-in plumbing, in turn, offer convenient touches of contemporary infrastructure.

All-Enveloping Alcove

Speaking of timeless beauties, consider how satisfying it is to see how sunlight picks out each hand-wrought detail of the intricate woodwork surrounding this double-slippered pedestal tub. Barely-there café-au-lait paint lets each detail of the wainscoting, crown molding and cabinetry take on a whisper of dimension, and warm textiles at the windows, floor and sconces toast the layered transitional design just a bit more. This exquisite neutral space is anything but boring.

Egg-Shaped Tub With Bold Art and Vivid Marble

At the proudly-progressive end of the spectrum, the owners of this landmarked Victorian home opted for this contemporary ovoid tub, then created a half-alcove to surround it by carrying the rosy-veined marble from the countertop into a pony wall dividing the tub from the glassed-in shower. The marble’s vivid accents are even more prominent beneath similar tones in the super-saturated and dimensional canvas centered above the tub.

Even Clawfoots Get the Blues

Custom-colored to coordinate with its midcentury-inspired vanity’s ombre shelves, this wet room’s royal blue tub is downright spectacular, thanks to the way its deep hue accentuates its feet. Better yet, this is no lackadaisically-tinted, exterior-only job; a bubble bath in this beauty’s equally-oceanic interior is every bit as dramatic as the view from here.

Forest Bathing (HGTV's Version)

Maintaining a magnificent living wall like this one is unquestionably much more involved than hanging art or giving one's statement tile and grout the occasional once-over with non-abrasive cleaners. That said, the aromatherapeutic possibilities of having a vertical garden from which to infuse one's bath quite literally at one's fingertips are impossible to ignore. We imagine and hope the homeowners who bathe in this space keep a small pair of shears concealed beneath the wall-mounted tap to snip greenery directly into their bathwater.
