Beach-blue walls add a pop in the foyer, where texture is layered effectively and design elements run the gamut from casual-chic to the refined elegance of Hollywood regency.

Distressed hickory planks clad floors throughout the home's interior. Tongue-and-groove pecky cypress, an indigenous Florida wood known for its fungus-produced holes and knots, lends interest and draws the eye in the foyer, where it clads the ceiling.

A nod to Spanish Colonial style and the tradition of cladding stair risers with Talavera tiles, glass tile lends color, texture and protection against scuff marks.

Vintage beach photos, matted, framed in rough-sawn Cypress and protected by a layer of Plexiglas, lend drama in the front hall. Pictures were culled from the extensive historic photographs collection at the Beaches Museum and History Hall in Jacksonville Beach, Fla.

High-regency style is best expressed in the foyer alcove, a niche that connects foyer to master suite and boasts a wall treatment inspired by chic hotel interiors.

Slats of poplar wood were puzzle-pieced together to create an eye-catching geometric wall pattern. Wood was then primed and painted before final installation.

Grounding the alcove's luxurious design style, a wrought-iron pendant light stands in contrast to the pecky cypress ceiling treatment.

Tucked behind the foyer, a luxe powder room boasts an unexpected combination of stone and glass-blend mosaic tile and fresh, vibrant green walls.

Keeping the room light, open and space-maximized, a hotel-chic lavatory rests atop basin legs rather than a solid wood vanity. A simple beveled mirror continues the room's emphasis on clean, uncluttered lines.

The ultra high-efficiency toilet features an automatic open and close lid, hands-free flushing, an adjustable heated seat and the features of a bidet.

Casting a spotlight on vintage beach photos, globe pendant lights, fashioned from hand-worked wrought iron, lend drama and an unexpected design element.

A built-in storage unit offers cubbies to stow shoes and outdoor apparel. The mobile unit pulls out to reveal the home's electronic system, tucked discreetly under the stairwell.

As part of HGTV Smart Home's remote security system, each door can be locked and unlocked via the homeowner's smartphone or Web-enabled device. Security cameras monitor front and back door activity; video clips and pictures are remotely accessible.

Subtlety is key in communicating the home's refined beach theme. A blue limpet shell mirror, flanked by candle sconces, greets guests in the foyer.

A powder-coated aluminum stair rail system visually expands the home's usable space. A decorative clock, displayed in the landing, is permanently set at five o'clock, quitting — and relaxation — time.

Visible from the foyer, the home's cupola ceiling is clad in pecky cypress, pickled with a mixture of alkyd-based white paint, mineral spirits and a tint base color to resemble wood planks weathered over time.

Beach-blue walls in the foyer were a last-minute decision, says Linda, who knew vintage photos would need a backdrop of intense color. "It made such a difference in the space," she says. "That's the magic of paint — it's so significant."

A distressed white finish softens the look of a wall mirror fashioned from mismatched pieces of driftwood.

Tile, wire and wood pair effectively in the home's entry space. "You are always looking for interesting materials and textures and ways to make any room richer," says Linda.
