Tour the Spectacular 2025 White House Christmas Decor With HGTV

Each year, hundreds of crafty volunteers from across the United States gather in Washington, DC, to decorate the White House for the holidays. And each year, HGTV captures all the whimsy in its annual White House Christmas special.

Even from a distance, it is clear something magical is afoot. There are 75 festive wreaths with vibrant red bows decorating the windows of the White House for the holidays. The White House holiday theme this year is "Home Is Where the Heart Is." Or, as the First Lady notes, “home is not merely a physical space; rather, it is the warmth and comfort I carry within.”

Every room featured in this year's White House holiday decor delivers on a special theme or color scheme. The Blue Room plays host to an 18-foot concolor fir that traveled more than 600 miles from its point of origin in Sidney, Michigan.

The concolor fir tree is thoughtfully decked out with gold stars and ornaments representing the official bird and official flower of every one of America's states and territories.

Blue butterflies evoke a spirit of hope, transformation and renewal in the Red Room dedicated to the foster care community. White ribbons wrap around the tree to convey the room's official message of “Fostering the Future.”

A team of 145 volunteers worked long hours to transform the White House into a spectacular holiday wonderland.

Spectacular shades of white and royal blue contrast beautifully with the brilliant Pompeian red walls in red twill satin of this famous room. The drapery was woven in the US from French Empire designs. The room also includes a portrait of former First Lady Dolley Madison.

There are few things more magical than the jewel-toned gossamer wings of a butterfly. The 2025 holiday decor for the White House Red Room features 10,000 butterflies spread throughout the space.

The White House Red Room is even more resplendent with fresh wall fabric that contrasts festively with its gold drapes.

James Monroe was the first president to decorate the Green Room in its signature green silks. It served as Monroe's card room. Above the fireplace mantel is a portrait of former First Lady Edith Roosevelt, wife of Theodore Roosevelt.

A fire blazes in the cozy White House Green Room, which takes on a theme centered on children and play for 2025.

The Green Room's playful theme is enhanced by a Lego portrait of America's first president, George Washington. The wreath above the portrait features red ribbons made of Legos.

The East Room holiday decor celebrates the 250th anniversary of the United States and the signing of the Declaration of Independence. The room's signature tree is topped by a gold eagle and anchored by a wraparound tree collar honoring this important anniversary.

Seven hundred feet of garlands are featured in the White House this year. Here, volunteers in the East Room add twinkling white lights to a garland.

The many mantels that define this historic home are a decorating opportunity. But the East Room offers one of the most spectacular displays, with its festive glass globes rendered more lovely when capped by a gold wreath with a glowing chandelier reflected in an enormous gilt mirror.

The 2025 White House gingerbread house, decorated with royal icing and pastillage (a type of sugar paste that becomes hard and durable when dry), is displayed in the State Dining Room and depicts the South Portico.

It took 120 pounds of gingerbread to create this phenomenal confectionery rendition of the White House.

The Grand Foyer is dazzling with its alley of decorated Christmas trees and glittering glass and light.

Red and blue are the brilliant jewel tones that define this all-American space featuring some of America’s most patriotic colors.
