First up, Marianne and Loren talk to Taniya Nayak, designer on Food Network’s Restaurant Impossible. On the Battle on the Beach show, Taniya and two other designers — Ty Pennington and Alison Victoria — mentor skilled teams of house flippers in renovating three identical beach houses. Each week the teams face new remodeling and design challenges, and, in the end, the winning team of flippers will receive $50,000.

Taniya and Loren discuss the on-air competition as well as the behind-the-scene competition and fun the crew had during the Battle on the Beach shoot. Alison Victoria started her own juicery called AV Juicery while Taniya got an espresso machine and opened a competing beverage shop called TN Coffeehouse. They also talk about the karaoke contests, dance parties and serious pranks that happened during the shoot. Sounds like a day at the beach.

The judges for Battle on the Beach are Mina Starsiak-Hawk and Mike Holmes. Mina joined Marianne and Loren to discuss what it was like judging her colleagues on the show. “It was tricky, I haven’t been on that judge side before and it’s hard trying to put aside my personal tastes,” reveals Mina. She also goes on to talk about what a tough critic Mike Holmes is and how much she enjoyed getting him to crack a smile.
