At an early age, Matthew’s mother Maria opened his eyes to the world of fashion, style, and home décor. As he grew older, it became very apparent to Matthew, as well as his friends and family, that a career in style was his true calling. So when it came time to choose a college, Parsons School of Design was at the top of the list. After he graduated from Parsons with a dual degree in Design and Business. He went on to work for the luxury brand Ralph Lauren for over a year. He then went on to work for the fashion house of TOM FORD. As Visual Merchandiser, Matthew created visual stories for their flagship store on Madison Avenue and their Bergdorf Goodman shop-in-shops. To Matthew, designing layouts to showcase merchandise wasn’t solely about selling clothes; it was about selling a lifestyle beyond just clothing. He quickly realized that his true passion was interior design.
With his passion realized and his direction set, Matthew went on to start his own interior design firm, Matthew Cane Designs. Combining livable spaces with an element of “chicness” is Matthew’s ultimate design aesthetic and vision. He believes every space has the potential to be chic; you just need the right color palette, eye for detail and, of course, personality.
Matthew’s work has been praised and recognized from multiple outlets, to his work in press outlets including Architectural Digest, MYDOMAINE, GLAM.com, InStyle, Maria Claire, & Glamour magazines and followed by a dedicated and growing social media following.
According to Matthew, “I always felt like I wanted to help people, but I could never be a psychotherapist or shrink. Design gives me the opportunity to change people’s’ lives by creating beauty where it is not always immediately seen or realized. To me, that’s the best therapy I can give and easiest way to spread happiness.”
