Matthew Baran is a licensed architect who has been practicing in Northern and Southern California for over 15 years. He has extensive experience with single and multi-family residential, commercial, and institutional architecture. He previously worked on large and small scale projects for firms as diverse as Angelil Graham (Now AGPS) and The Jerde Partnership. In addition to his own practice, he is a partner at the design build development firm Assemblage. 

Matthew teaches courses at UC Berkeley and the Academy of Art University, and has been invited to critique at schools that include Stanford, California College of the Arts, and USC. His research and academic work focuses on the use of broadly defined machines to analyze, extend, and respond to existing site conditions. His research focus includes mapping, diagramming and scripting using BIM, GIS, CNC fabrication and experimental robotics.
