Beach House Overlooks Carolina Marsh

Located just outside of Charleston, S.C., this beautiful beach house features a front lawn defined by native sweetgrass and dwarf papyrus. These plants not only soften the home's exterior, but also evoke the texture and movement of the marsh in the distance.

Concrete Walkway Offers Modern Touch

A clean concrete path both highlights the home's dramatic entrance and puts a modern twist on its coastal style. To increase visibility at night, landscape architect J.R. Kramer layered the walkway with sconces and other lights.

Breezeway Leads Right to the Water

Following that concrete path leads visitors to a wood landing, where they can either go upstairs or continue straight ahead to the water. This breezeway also accommodates ocean winds and allows for proper aeration.

Yellow Door Enlivens Home's Exterior

What beach house would be complete without a bright yellow door to match its sunny surroundings? An industrial railing with steel cables finishes off the balcony and provides an unexpected contrast to the natural landscaping.

Path Lined With Ornamental Grasses

To increase the lot's natural beauty, landscape architect J.R. Kramer flanked the path with more ornamental grasses. With these plants in place, the yard easily resembles a private paradise.

Back Deck Boasts Sleek Pool, Marsh Views

Tucked into the center of the home is a custom Ipe deck with stunning views of the marsh beyond. A sleek swimming pool complements the modern space and invites the owners to cool off on a particularly hot day.

Industrial Railings Define Outdoor Space

Railings with steel cables echo those found at the front of the home, and so make these two separate spaces feel united. Meanwhile, planters layer the deck and offer a natural touch.

Lounge Area Complete With Stylish Chairs

Two stylish lounge chairs anchor the far end of the deck and complement the beach house's neutral siding. After an afternoon of swimming, the owners can head to this corner and watch the sunset over the water.

Fire Pit Makes Intimate Entertaining Space

Landscape architect J.R. Kramer knew that the sideyard was a great spot for a small fire pit. Here, four wood chairs circle the feature and invite the owners and their friends to take in the beauty of their surroundings.
