Wellness-Focused Lifestyles Are a Focus in 2022
These past 18 months, we've all stayed closer to home. Luxury residential developers have taken notice, incorporating lifestyle-focused amenities like high-end in-house spas, rooftop fitness, massive green spaces and even rooftop dog parks. "After over a year of disruption, many aspects of daily life have returned, but our normal is unlikely to ever look the same," says Tania Richardson, co-founder and CEO of Tomas Pierce Interior Design. "Our new concept of luxury is rooted in healthy and thoughtful lifestyles." With this in mind, here are 10 wellness amenities you've got to see to believe in today's urban apartments and condos.
Experience Rooftop Fitness in Scottsdale
Sparkling rooftop pools are a draw, of course, but rooftop amenities are expanding to include lap pools and running tracks. Residents can engage with nature and feel the warm sunshine as they get in a daily workout. At Optima Kierland, a luxury building in Scottsdale with rentals and for-sale residences, residents have access to a quarter-mile outdoor running track around the perimeter of the Sky Deck and a 50 meter lap pool. The building also boasts an indoor/outdoor yoga studio and fitness center. Start the day with an al fresco workout with unobstructed mountain views.
Meditation Sky Decks Provide Peace in the City
The benefits of meditation are numerous, including reduced stress and lower anxiety, as well as enhanced emotional health and self-awareness. Since we all want what meditation has to offer, it's no surprise to see luxe condo developers incorporating spaces for wellness, mindfulness and meditation. At Jolie, a new luxury building in Manhattan's Financial District, outdoor areas were crafted with meditation in mind. On the rooftop, the Zen-inspired meditation deck — 500 feet above street level — wows with views across the Hudson River, to the Statue of Liberty and beyond. "In terms of concierge services, yoga, meditation, sound baths and mindfulness will continue to grow," notes mind-body wellness lifestyle expert Jaya Jaya Myra.
Real Sport Courts & Simulators Expand Your Fitness Offerings in NYC
There's no need to leave your apartment building to get in a pick-up game of basketball, even squash. Some luxe buildings have boxing rings, as well as yoga and barre studios. Go ahead and cancel your gym membership now. At 378 West End Avenue, an upscale condo building on New York's Upper West Side, fitness-focused amenities lure in new residents. The building has a saltwater lap pool, half basketball court and regulation squash court, as well as a sports simulator for practicing sports like baseball, golf and hockey.
Sunrise & Sunset Pool Options in South Florida
It's not unusual to have a swimming pool. Today's urban residents expect their apartment or condo building to have an on-site pool — typically an indoor and an outdoor pool. Some developments, like Palazzo Della Luna, a 10-story ultra-luxe condo building on South Florida's Fisher Island, are kicking it up a notch. Well-to-do residents can revel in a vibrantly colored sunrise or sunset from the comfort and convenience of the building's outdoor pool area. The building's 21-meter infinity-edge "Sunrise Pool" and 34-meter infinity-edge "Sunset Pool" have underwater seating and views across Biscayne Bay and the Atlantic Ocean.
High-End 'Markets' Offer New Products to Residents
Vending machines aren't just for quick snacks and drinks, like potato chips, candy bars and sodas. At The Overlook at St. Gabriel's in Brighton, Massachusetts, three on-property "lockets" are stocked with workout gear, beauty products, healthy snacks, even CBD products for pets. Created by Alchemista, these "on-demand modular marketplaces" have become uber-popular with residents eager for the newest flavors and local finds. At The Overlook, "lockets" are located in the fitness center, pool area and the lobby for the convenience of wellness-focused residents.
Residences Are Tapping Into the Therapeutic Potential of Music Rooms & Recording Studios
We all love music. It's become a part of our daily lives, whether we tune in in the car, while making dinner or while strolling the neighborhood. Listening to music is therapeutic, but so is making music. At 378 West End Avenue on New York's Upper West Side, a private music room with a soundproof recording studio is on site for residents. Here you'll find an electric guitar, acoustic guitar, drum set and digital baby grand piano, as well as a soundboard, amps and the newest recording technology. The room's acoustic design makes this the perfect home music studio.
Next-Level Wellness Includes Cutting Edge Touchless Technology
Carillon Miami Wellness Resort wows with three luxury towers, including two for residents and one for hotel guests (try before you buy, right?). You'll find traditional health and wellness offerings, like a fitness center with daily classes, including yoga, barre, cycling and boxing. The resort also boasts an array of new touchless wellness services with benefits like weight loss, relaxation and rejuvenation. V.E.M.I. (Vibroacoustic Electro Magnetic and Infrared Therapy), for example, uses healing sounds and full-body vibrations to recharge, detoxify and balance the body. The luxe residential property also has a two-story indoor rock wall and cruiser bike rentals.
Massive Green Spaces Tap Into the Biophilia Trend
These days, there's almost no need to leave your apartment building, not even for a walk in the park. Today's luxe buildings are tapping into the biophilia trend for ways humans can enjoy the outdoors, allowing residents to connect with nature through manicured landscapes, al fresco dining areas, even Japanese rock gardens. At 5 River Park, a 15-story residential building in Brooklyn, a dual-level green space features a garden grotto, pool deck and expansive children's playground, as well as an outdoor kitchen and living rooms. You can also play games in the fresh air, including bocce, chess and table tennis.
All-Natural Spa Treatments Are Now Part of the Wellness Package at High-End Residences
Many of us want what's best for our bodies, including all-natural spa treatments that revive and restore. "COVID has provided a moment of contemplation," adds Richardson. "It’s enabled us to place more of a focus on overall mental health and wellness in common amenities." At the 54-story Turnberry Ocean Club Residences in Miami, three penthouse levels are dedicated to facilitating good health and wellness. At the on-property spa, Calm, enjoy a signature massage with a view of Miami's dramatic skyline. The spa also allows residents to indulge in lavender-infused body wraps, Himalayan salt bath soaks and hydrating Moroccan black soap beauty rituals.
Luxe Perks for Pups Like Dog Spas and Dog Parks Now Popular at Some Apartments
Condo developers have not overlooked pups moving into their modern and luxurious buildings. Dog parks, even dog spas, are popping up at luxury residences, like Eleve Lofts and Skydeck Apartments in Glendale, California. A rooftop dog park allows residents and their four-legged pals to stroll lush green gardens while savoring 360-degree views of Los Angeles and surrounding mountains. There's even an outdoor bath for dogs. At 11 Hoyt in Brooklyn, you'll also find a private dog park and dog spa, enabling posh pups to enjoy their own good health and happiness.
