A corner window seat with plenty of pillows is the perfect solution to fitting as many people as possible into this small dining space. Designers thoughtfully hid outlets and USB ports along the window seat so devices always have a convenient place to charge up. The massive custom dining table with steel base easily accomodates the family for meals or just hanging out. The ceiling is clad with shiplap to help play up the coastal feel, and a modern brass light fixture is the perfect finishing touch.

This adorable beach cottage has a cottage feel, but there are some modern touches in the house numbers, sleek light sconces and even the railing. The blue entry door adds a fun pop of color.

Shiplap Front Entry and Stair with Wood Accents

The turquoise front door opens into a bright airy foyer and stair space. This space sets the tone for the modern coastal style of the home. Thanks to wood paddles for wall decor, white shiplap walls and ceilings, a simple black railing and three brass, coastal-feel light fixtures, there is a definite beachy vibe when you first walk in.

Open Floor Plan Dining Living Kitchen with Modern Coastal Aesthetic

This open plan design allows for maximum square footage for people and entertaining. Spaces were planned to take advantage of the windows and water views. The spaces share an open ceiling space clad with shiplap, adding to the coastal vibe. Tech Lighting was added across the space with many heads so that at night, light can be tossed up to the ceiling to keep the room from feeling cavernous.

Living Room Features Fun Hanging Chair

A hanging chair in the corner of this living room offers occupants a great view of the beach. The chair is suspended from the shiplap clad ceiling by a rope, adding to the coastal feel of the bright, light-filled space.

Living Room with Wall of Windows

This room is all about the view, but in this small beach cottage, every inch counts. Designers decided to go with an extra long sectional (for the sitting space) and a fun hanging chair in the corner. The rest of the floor plan was kept open so that people can be sitting at the many turquoise stools at the island as well as the living space without additional furniture in between. A fun assortment of various sized tables is an uncluttered look.

Modern Coastal Kitchen with Concrete Countertops and Turquoise Blue Stools

The clean, sleek look of this kitchen is achieved with navy blue and white cabinetry and a white subway tile backsplash. To add a modern element, thick concrete counters were poured on site to avoid any seams. Bright, turquoise blue stools and accessories are a fun pop of color. Brass dome pendant lights installed over the counter shine brightly against the white shiplap ceiling.

Navy and White Kitchen with Brass Lighting Fixtures

This U-shaped kitchen offers a huge amount of storage below and some white upper cabinets that blend into the wall space. To keep the space clean and sleek, the ventilation hood was tucked behind a false cabinet panel. A thick, site poured concrete counter with waterfall edge was poured on site. Brass pendants and sconces complement the navy blue lower cabinets for that modern feel.

Kitchen With Open Shelves and Modern Brass Sconce

Modern elements are everywhere in this gleaming kitchen. White upper cabinets almost completely blend into the subway tiled walls, contrasting with the eye-catching navy blue lower cabinets. Open shelves offer storage and a place to showcase treasured dishware. Concrete counters and the brass sconce and pulls add to the modern coastal vibe.

Mudroom with Pantry Space with White Cabinetry and Black Pegboard

White, modern slab face cabinets hide a decent amount of pantry space and utility closet and feature great leather handles. A giant pegboard allows flexibility for whatever storage needs may arise. Pegs can be rearranged to hold towels, hats, life vests, etc.

Mudroom Bench with Pegboard Wall

A pop of turquoise on a sliding door hides this mudroom and pantry combined space. The giant pegboard is an ideal flexible storage solution since the pegs can be arranged to hold whatever may be needed. One thick floating wood bench allows for a dumping zone while shoes and flip-flops tuck in below.

Bathroom Vanity with Satin Brass Elements

To give this bathroom a modern vibe, white subway tile walls don't detract from the floating vanity and satin brass wall-mounted faucet. Brass is also accented throughout the bathroom in the light fixture, paper holder and decorative accents. The large mirror reflects the rest of the bathroom, making the space feel even bigger. Jumbo walnut wedge hooks add a bit of warmth and finish the space.

White tile with an accent wall of black tile is modern and sophisticated in this walk in shower. Satin brass fixtures were chosen for a modern feel.

This white walk-in shower features an accent wall of black, with a neat wall-to-wall niche that perfectly fits into the tile coursing. Satin brass fixtures were chosen to make a modern statement. Jumbo walnut wedge hooks are the perfect place to hang towels.

Hallway and Stair Is Wide and Bright

This hallway corridor was purposefully made wider to accommodate twin dressers accessorized with round mirror and brass light sconces. The dressers add extra storage to this small cottage, allowing homeowners to tuck away extra bedding and towels. The massive mirrors reflect light and make the space feel larger.

Hallway with Concrete Floor and Exposed Pipe

To further play up the industrial modern cottage vibe in this small beach house, a concrete slab floor and industrial HVAC vent running through the ceiling were left in place. Shiplap was added to one accent wall to bring in that coastal element. A blue painted sliding door opens into the bathroom and brings a little bit of color to this space.

Bunk Room with Wavy Wallpaper and Rope Ladders

So many elements of this bunk room design are just awesome. The wavy wallpaper on the back wall is really fun and gives the room an underwater effect. Rope ladders provide access to upper bunks; the turquoise rope coordinates perfectly with the wallpaper and oak steps were custom fabricated. For storage, closets are on either side of the room, both with blue sliding barn doors with black hardware. The pendant light is made from pieces of plastic that attach to a frame, so it’s durable in case of kid mishap, but also resonates with the watery feel.

Watery Bunk Room with Turquoise Rope Ladders and Wavy Wallpaper

Wavy wallpaper and aqua and navy linens make this bunk room an underwater adventure. A site-built platform supports the lower queen mattress and X-long twin above. The turquoise rope is perfect for the rope ladder and the wallpaper is such a beautiful blue and fits the theme perfectly.

Sliding Closet Doors in Kids Bunk Room

Black hardware is used to hang blue sliding closet doors for the kids bunk room closets. Pegs are added for the kids to hang blankets, towels, bags, etc.

Master Bedroom Features Tailored Upholstered Bed and Oversized Nightstands

With the idea that visitors to the beach want to spend more time enjoying the sun and sand than holed up in the bedroom, the master bedroom at this beach house was limited in square footage. What it lacks in size it makes up for in style with a well-tailored, upholstered, queen-sized bed, oversized nightstands that provide extra storage and a watercolor painting on the wall.

A large chest of drawers or small dresser works well as a nightstand, particularly at a beach house like this one as it offers more storage for clothing and extra tabletop space for placing travel items close at hand.

Closets Are Kept Minimal in Vacation Beach House

Knowing few people take the time to formally hang their clothes during a trip to the beach, designer Kristina Crestin opted to add a minimalistic, open closet space in the master bedroom of this beach house. Shelves and bins make for easy spots to toss bathing suits and t-shirts. The brass stool on the floor is more than meets the eye. It's concealing a PVC pipe that couldn't be removed and had to remain accessible for plumbing purposes.
