Bold Blue Bedroom

Located in the front of the house in what once was an old attic space with dropped ceiling and skinny closet, a reflective electric blue vinyl wallcovering was used to give this bedroom bold style. The modish bedroom now also includes tons of closet space and a much larger window opening with lipstick red roman shades that floods the space with natural light.

Old-World Chests

Instead of nightstands, a pair of wooden Bombay-style chests with a hand-painted red and white floral pattern add stylish storage on each side of the bed. "They look almost like they were picked up on a trip overseas and brought back," says designer Brian Patrick Flynn.

Bedside Essentials

On top of each chest sits a white ceramic table lamp with white linen shade that provides light for bedtime reading. On this side, the top of the chest also includes interior design books, a vintage black top hat and a blue globe that add personality to the room.

Timeless Design

The full-sized Jenny Lind bed has a carved wood solid frame with each turned spindle leg and slat painted with a lacquered black finish. The timeless bed includes super-comfortable bedding with a mix of casual cotton and embroidered fabrics that add color and texture to the space.

Plush Pillows

The comfortable and cozy bed also includes fire engine red and bright blue pillows with a custom black and white striped pillow on top for the perfect finishing touch.

Cohesive Look

The solution-based design for this attic-shaped room with left and right sloping ceilings was to open up the ceiling and add collar ties to make the space feel airy and inviting, and utilize unused space below to create closets. The six handy closets blend in with the rest of the bedroom's electric blue walls, with pure white trim that helps the closets coordinate with the exposed collar ties above.

Stylish Shades

The custom lipstick red roman shades that cover the enlarged window opening behind the bed coordinate with the bedroom’s color scheme and offer privacy when desired.

User-Friendly Closets

This view into one of the bedroom's closet with the door open shows the high shelf and hanging rod for clothes and accessories, including work shirts and a red rain jacket. A closet on the other side of the bedroom opens to reveal a secret play space.

Attractive Area Rug

A wider look at the bedroom highlights the handmade flat weave cotton area rug with a navy blue and white chevron geometric pattern that adds charm and softness over the prefinished engineered hardwood floor.

Low-Profile Smart TV

The low-profile TV that mounts flat to the wall across from the end of the bed includes a special art mode that offers the chance to turn the bedroom into an art gallery. A stylish modern red two-drawer console table with open and closed storage sits under the advanced TV. Art featured is "2 Pitchers and Fruits" by Holly Coulis.

Perfect Fit

The modern red console table with X-cross base is a perfect fit for this playful space with a bold color scheme and eclectic style. The modern style table offers drawers for bedroom essentials and display space for interior design books and white ceramic plant pots, with a low shelf that offers easy access to shoes.

Mix of Styles

The boldly colored console table is a great example of the mix of the different styles chosen for this bedroom, designed to be a space with a sense of fun and strong personality.

Eye-Catching Ceiling

The exposed collar ties painted pure white in the bedroom's now open vaulted ceiling provide important contrast for the bold and reflective blue walls.

Focal Point Fixture

A modern, polished nickel chandelier with white linen shades and articulated arms that hinge on swivel-detailed joints illuminates the space from above. The glam fixture creates a stunning focal point, helps tone down the bold blue walls and adds a dose of drama.

Cozy Bedding

A white down comforter and a vintage cross-stitch red quilt, part of the comfortable bedding chosen for this bedroom, add coziness on top of the full-sized bed.

Bedside Extras

Fresh red flowers add softness and a touch of color to the top of the old world-style chest on this side of the bed. A fun red toy car and a stack of interior design books that offer inspiration for future home projects also sit on top.

Whimsical Art

An original piece of playful art by resident artist Celery Jones depicts a massive bunny holding what looks like a hot air balloon. The black and white painting with a pop of fire engine red coordinates with the bedroom's defined color scheme.

Secret Space

When the closet doors are closed there is no hint of the whimsical play space tucked inside.

One-of-Kind Hardware

The closet doors include one-of-a-kind hardware, stitched leather cricket balls that designer Brian Patrick Flynn picked up in the Notting Hill neighborhood of London. The red hardware adds to the personality and character of the bedroom.

Secret Play Area

This view with the doors open shows the interior of the closets, styled as a secret play space for kids with round white embroidered Moroccan poofs with a hand stitched floral design and assorted throw pillows for comfort. Two chrome flush mount light fixtures with brilliant red shades inside the closet provide lighting.

Versatile Space

The closets with secret play area for reading or relaxing are a smart use of space in this attic-shaped bedroom with sloped ceilings.

Casual and Comfortable

The pillows and poufs in this casual and comfortable play area were chosen to coordinate with the bedroom’s bold color scheme. A pair of wood easels with art supplies in the play space encourage creativity.

Extra Storage

A vintage chest offers storage for art supplies and games, to help keep the space free from clutter.

Americana With a Twist

This view from the hallway shows the bedroom's bold blue color with punches of red that makes a strong impact and gives the space a distinctive look and personality.
