Entertain and Relax

Part of a new addition to the back of the home that includes the master bedroom and master bath above, the lounge-worthy living room is located just two steps down from the kitchen and open dining room. This nice-sized space with tons of windows offers an ideal spot for entertaining and relaxing while enjoying outdoor views.

High-Style Seating

Two identical plush sofas in a rich and regal shade of emerald green offer comfortable seating for visiting with guests, enjoying the cozy fireplace or the enticing outdoor views. The living room is now located where a small deck previously sat off the back of the home.

Midcentury Modern Sofas

One of designer Brian Patrick Flynn’s favorite design details in the home, the two identical emerald green sofas include a Midcentury Modern style with hardwood box frame construction, plush velvet upholstery, button tufting and tapered wood legs.

Open Railing Staircase

This view from the living room shows the pure white staircase with open railing behind one of the two sofas that leads to the more private spaces of the home upstairs.

Artistic Touch

On the wall by the stairs to the upper level hangs a custom piece of art by Southern artist Blayne that playfully depicts a small child with a crown with a bold fire engine red background. The painting offers a preview of the bold use of color seen in the bedrooms on the second floor of the home.

Styled Accents

Identical wood console tables with an open fretwork design and gray finish behind each sofa hold stacks of coffee table books and houseplants. The eye-catching tables have a very sculptural look, with a see-through base that helps the living room feel open.

Fun Pillows

A combination of custom and purchased throw pillows play up all the colors of the living room’s area rug, including French blue, navy, sea green, faded red, and mustard yellow.

Security Keypad

An advanced touch-to-wake keypad that lights up when you need it, part of the home's easy to use security system with 24/7 alarm monitoring, sits on the wall by one of the French doors to the backyard.

Secret Storage Space

A small door underneath the stairwell leads to a surprisingly large pantry with space for dry goods and entertaining essentials like glasses, cups, stemware and dishes.

Contrasting Trim

Trim painted in ultra-white around the living room ‘s fireplace, windows and two sets of French doors that lead outside provides contrast for the eucalyptus green walls.

Wow-Worthy Fireplace

A black ventless gas fireplace was made more dramatic with a whitewashed porcelain tile façade in a brick pattern that spans from the floor almost all the way to the ceiling for a clean and modern look. A flat-screen TV with art mode that allows viewing of beautiful works of art placed above the fireplace has a customizable walnut frame that adheres with magnets and helps the TV blend with the rest of the room's decor.

Flooring Worth Adoring

The living room’s medium-tone prefinished engineered hardwood floor creates a warm and neutral backdrop for the space. “The best way to describe it would be greige,” says designer Brian Patrick Flynn. “It’s kind of like a grayish beige mix.”

Coupled Coffee Tables

Two oval coffee tables with a flared, cage-style stainless steel pedestal base and tempered glass tops offer a spot for resting drinks, displaying stacks of design books and a vase with fresh flowers.

Relaxed Roman Shades

The sea green relaxed roman shades on the windows and two sets of French doors have a pattern that picks up the different tones and shades of green used for this welcoming living room.

Adjustable Floor Lamps

Instead of table lamps, designer Brian Patrick Flynn used two adjustable antique brass and matte black metal floor lamps at one end of each sofa to visually free up space and make the living room feel larger.

Color Strategy

The play of lots of color in the living room is part of a design strategy that has color gradually grow as visitors enter the home, then move to the great room and eventually upstairs to the bold bedrooms with lots of personality.

Tribal-Inspired Area Rug

The living room’s colorful and large hand-knotted, tribal-inspired area rug marries old world tradition with modern style and a blue background that includes an intricate pattern with vibrant color.

Cozy Throw Blanket

In addition to pillows, a blue throw blanket with window pane pattern keeps things cozy on one of the living room sofas.

Peace of Mind

The white base station of the home's top-notch, easy to use home security system sits in the living room, ready to protect the property with a backup battery that engages during power outages to supply continuous power for up to 24 hours.

Great Indoor Flow

This wide view shows the easy transition between spaces in the great room, from the living room to open dining room and easy-access kitchen in this urban home made for modern living. The sunken design of the living room makes the space feel bigger, and creates an easy transition from the living room to the deck and backyard outside.

Enticing View

Looking from the other direction, this image shows the view that greets visitors as they enter the front door of the home with the kitchen and open dining room just a couple steps up from the inviting living room.

Curated Look

A curated look with modern and industrial design elements and a mix of colors creates an appealing living room that coordinates with adjacent spaces and reflects this urban home's mix of easy living and modern style.
