Before + Afters: Restored Seaside Retreat

Over the years, the exterior of this historic seaside home was stripped by salt and strong winds, while the interior was restructured in a way that didn't make sense. After relocating the front door, extending the porch and outfitting the interior with new furniture, though, DiMauro Architects restored the "Grand Old Lady by the Sea" to her former glory.

Architects reorganized the layout of the home around a center axis design. The main entrance was moved to the middle of the house and a porch was extended, making a central passageway through the main floor.

The house's attic gets fresh new life as a colorful sitting area with a small dining table and cozy spots to curl up with a book. Cheery patterns brighten up the armchairs and window. The wood floor gets a shipshape coat of nautical blue.
