Aquarius (Jan. 20–Feb. 18)

Suzy Olsen, interior designer and astrologer, says forward-thinking and trendsetting Aquarians have no problem with breaking traditions when it comes to design and decor. With this in mind you can easily embrace a modern, avant-garde aesthetic in your living room. “I envision a minimalist space with shiny, reflective surfaces and an open, airy feel,” Olsen says.

Aquarius (Jan. 20–Feb. 18)

Sheyna James, holistic interior designer and energy guide, says that Aquarians should ensure that their living space has “a quirky or unconventional aspect about it.” She especially emphasizes organic-shaped furniture to capture this look. “I’m loving sculptural and curved furniture,” she says.

Pisces (Feb. 19–March 20)

Since those under the Pisces sign tend to be deeply sensitive and imaginative, according to Olsen, you can use your “keen intuition” when decorating your living space.

“The vibe of a Pisces’ living room should evoke a feeling or a fond memory, and above all, it should support a feeling of relaxation,” Olsen says. “I recommend using soothing colors of the sea and selecting decor in soft, curving shapes.”

Pisces (Feb. 19–March 20)

James says that Pisces individuals need a flexible space that will allow them to “create and dream.” To support this vibe, she recommends adding a whimsical touch with iridescent decor and pastel colors in the living room.

Aries (March 21–April 19)

“This Mars-ruled fire sign is youthful, vibrant and not afraid to take risks,” Olsen observes. “An Aries living room should have an element of excitement and provide a feeling of inspiration.”

Specifically, Olsen suggests displaying a bold statement piece in your living room, such as an abstract painting with bright colors or pillow fabrics in a vibrant geometric prints. “Aries is known for their DIY skills, so you may want to create your own statement piece,” she says.

Aries (March 21–April 19)

James says that for those born under the Aries sign, your “dynamic, fiery energy” needs space to move around and unwind after all the activities you’ve done.

“Ensure you have a space plan that allows you to chill on the sofa and get your workout in or be active as you binge your next fave TV series,” she says.

Taurus (April 20–May 20)

“Luxury meets comfort” could be a Taurus’ motto, as Olsen points out. She says that this Venus-ruled sign values high-quality materials and a comfortable, cozy sofa for lounging.

“All-natural, tactile materials are a must for this earth sign, so I recommend layering in several highly textural wool or velvet pillows and supple leather ottomans,” she says. “Soft, luxurious fabrics such as velvet can be used for pillows and any upholstered items.”

Gemini (May 21–June 20)

Known for curiosity and intellect, Geminis are advised to use their expansive book collection as decor in the living room.

“I recommend creatively staging your books by color on shelves, mantels and a coffee table,” Olsen says. “Showcase your many hobbies by decorating with items associated with your varied interests.”

Gemini (May 21–June 20)

Also, since Gemini individuals often have “enthusiasm for learning new things,” as James puts it, she says that it’s important to allow your living space to be versatile. This will make it easy to take on a number of activities and welcome guests into your space, since Geminis are also social butterflies.

“You may want to invest in multi-purpose furniture, like an ottoman, that can function as additional seating and a coffee table,” she says.

Cancer (June 21–July 22)

“Cancer is the sign I most associate with ‘home,’” Olsen says. “Being the cardinal water sign, Cancer wishes to support, nurture and protect, which are all traditional functions of the home. I recommend utilizing decor that creates a soothing and comforting environment for your living room, and a monochromatic or neutral color scheme is a good strategy.”

Cancer (June 21–July 22)

Calling Cancers “natural homebodies” ruled by the Moon, James says that you love to have your family close, and you likely already have family photos displayed on your living room walls. But James also cautions that it’s important for Cancers to declutter their living spaces often.

“Keepsakes are great until they start to take up too much space,” James says.

Leo (July 23–Aug. 22)

“Ruled by the Sun, the living room of a Leo should reflect their bright personality, big heart and success,” Olsen reflects. She recommends using bright colors, especially yellows and golds, creatively in your decor. Add gold metal accents for additional sparkle.

Leo (July 23–Aug. 22)

“For Leo, you will do best with a bold statement mirror to check yourself out on the way out the door, preferably in gold or brass, which is Leo’s signature color,” James says. “You can make this a DIY project — grab some gold spray paint and spray the frame of your mirror.”

Virgo (Aug. 23–Sept. 22)

Virgo (Aug. 23–Sept. 22)

James says that the Virgo’s mantra could be, “Form follows function,” so it should come easily to be practical when designing your living room. “Indulge in the details of what makes your living room function, like having a place for non-stationary items like throw pillows, blankets and remotes,” she adds.

Libra (Sept. 23–Oct. 22)

“No one recognizes harmonious design more than a Libra,” Olsen says. “A great approach for Libra is to work with a balanced black-and-white color palette, with whites and creams being the predominant colors for an open and airy feel. With this sign’s refined taste, I would recommend decorating your living room with black-and-white photography. Curate your shelves with just the right proportions of greenery, books, vases and artwork.”

Libra (Sept. 23–Oct. 22)

As “art curators and design enthusiasts,” as James describes them, she recommends that Libras make a favorite art piece the star of the show in the living room.

Scorpio (Oct. 23–Nov. 21)

Scorpios are all about a moody aesthetic, so that should guide you in your living room design.

“Scorpios feel deeply and passionately but are not known for being extroverted,” Olsen says. “I suggest working with deep hues, such as dark blues, purples and reds. Paint all of the walls dark and decorate with rich velvet pillows, brass accent lamps and a soft shag rug. A vintage iron candelabra would add just the right amount of drama.”

Scorpio (Oct. 23–Nov. 21)

James says that Scorpio individuals need depth in their spaces. “Overall, the living room has to invite intimate touches like cozy deep-seat sofas and chairs, or maybe even a chaise lounge,” she says.

Sagittarius (Nov. 22–Dec. 21)

Sagittarius people are known for being free-spirited nomads, something that can lend itself to your living room decor. Olsen advises looking to your many travels and love of adventure for your design. “Gather any items you have collected on trips abroad and stage them prominently on shelves and your coffee table,” Olsen says.

Sagittarius (Nov. 22–Dec. 21)

“Since you are a naturally philosophical sign, think about the story you’d like your space to tell,” James says. “If your space could talk, how would you like for it to describe itself?”

Olsen says that a refined and classic aesthetic works best for the disciplined and ambitious Capricorn.

“In this Saturnian, no-nonsense sign, a traditional and timeless beauty is revered,” Olsen says. “I recommend choosing materials and decor for your living room that are sturdy and durable, such as solid wood, leather and stone.”
