6 Genius Tips on Designing a Nursery for Twins

Designing a nursery for twins may seem daunting, but do not fear. We have sourced six genius tips from interior designer Megan Robertson that will help you create a functional and beautiful space.

Megan's first tip is to keep the crips close together. "Having their cribs side by side is calming to newborn twins, knowing that their sibling is very nearby at all times. Eventually, as they grow, it's best to separate them so they do not climb over into one another's cribs. Thinking about furniture placement in general and having a flexible nursery space to accommodate this requires forward thinking and space planning," she explains.

"Think about giving each child their own special item near their crib, such as a stuffed animal or a blanket embroidered with their name, a nice touch for individuality. Twins often get grouped together, so these small design details that emphasize their individuality from day one are so important to building their sense of self," she says.

Another tip Megan gives is to incorporate a personal piece of art. "I love the idea of incorporating each of the babies' names on a piece of art. It's a great way to add wall decor and a personal touch at the same time."

"I recommend incorporating two baby monitors into your nursery, so you can keep an eye on each one in their crib. Safety comes first," she says.

"In this case, our client was having a boy and a girl, so we kept it to a neutral color palette. But you want to create a space that will grow with the twins, no matter their gender. If you want to add color, maybe consider neutral with pops of navy blue or forest green for boys, and for girls, light peaches, pinkish ivories and yellows are also beautiful and will translate as they get older," she says.
