The fall season and upcoming holiday season offer many opportunities for dressing up your doors with wreaths. Halloween is no exception, but finding orange materials as a base for your wreath can be tricky.

We have found a possible solution in tow rope. Wrapping your wreath frame in tow rope creates the perfect backdrop for Halloween themed decorations. As a bonus, the tow rope makes an excellent hanger.

What you will need:

  • Styrofoam wreath frame
  • Orange tow rope (75 to 100 feet depending on size of wreath frame)
  • Hot glue gun and glue sticks
  • Artificial leaves
  • Mini artificial pumpkins
  • White spray paint
  • Vinyl adhesive letters

Halloween Tow Rope Wreath

Tow rope gives this Halloween wreath its lovely orange color. To make it, you will need: Styrofoam wreath frame/Orange tow rope (75 to 100 feet depending on size of wreath frame)/Hot glue gun and glue sticks/Artificial leaves/Mini artificial pumpkins/White spray paint/Vinyl adhesive letters

Attaching the Hanger

Cut a length of the tow rope about 2 feet long. Attach a two foot length of the tow rope to the back of the wreath frame with a hot glue gun. The rope should be close to the outside edge of the frame.

Begin Wrapping the Wreath Frame

Attach one end of the tow rope to the back of the wreath frame (close to the bottom) with a hot glue gun. Allow it to cool and harden completely before proceeding. When cool, begin wrapping the rope around the frame. After every 6 passes, leave a triangular space the width of two passes to keep the rope perpendicular to the inside of the frame.

Prepare Embellishments for the Wreath

Paint inexpensive artificial mini pumpkins with white spray paint to embellish your wreath. Careful to mask off the stems. Attach them to the bottom center of the wreath using a hot glue gun.  Add vinyl adhesive letters to the pumpkins for a Halloween message.

Wrapping the Wreath

When wrapping the wreath frame be sure to wrap over the spot where the hanger is glued to further secure it.

Filling in the Spaces

After wrapping frame once keeping lines as close to perpendicular as possible, fill in spaces with another pass. Expect some rope overlap on the inside of the wreath frame.

Now Hang It!

Install a nail or other hanger on your door and hang your wreath using the tow rope hanger. Modern and fresh, this festive orange Halloween wreath is ready to welcome visitors.
