Before and After: Remodeling a Kitchen and Bath
HGTV Dream Home 2017 was created by transforming an 80s home into a vacation retreat. The most dramatic changes were in the kitchen and bathrooms with design ideas courtesy of Cabinets To Go, the only national kitchen and bath cabinet specialty retailer.

Before: Kitchen
HGTV Dream Home 2017 started with great bones, but needed a more refined, sophisticated look. The transformation began in the kitchen, which was originally open and airy, but in serious need of personality. Plain white cabinets, a ho-hum backsplash, and mismatched appliances didn’t make much of a style statement.
After: Kitchen
Reimagining the layout and the look made all the difference. Designer Brian Patrick Flynn conceived a deep, woodsy color palette that delivered instant mood—from the platinum gray Shaker-style cabinets from Cabinets To Go to the glossy green clay subway tile and the concrete countertops. Moving the refrigerator to the other side of the room and re-orienting the island created a more natural flow.

Smart Solutions
Clever storage is packed into even the narrowest spaces, like this three-tiered stove-side pull-out drawer that can house spices, utensils, and cookware for easy reach.

Before: Kitchen
The original kitchen was flanked on one side by a plain built-in desk.
After: Kitchen
The revamp turned the desk nook into a more beautiful and functional bar area, perfect for entertaining. A thoughtfully placed wine rack frees up counter space for cocktail prep.

Before: Bathroom
This original bathroom was drab and outdated—to say nothing of visually overwhelming, with mirrored surfaces on all sides.
After: Bathroom
The bathroom was reimagined in a vibrant, fresh aqua with a mix of modern and traditional finishes—clean, contemporary cabinetry from Cabinets To Go paired with chrome hardware and classic-feeling touches like a nailhead-trim mirror and marble subway tile.

Before: Master Bathroom
The original master bath was a study in beige—roomy, but charm-free and uninviting.
After: Master Bathroom
For the remodel, Brian chose a different neutral—a cool dove gray—and took it in a completely different direction. The mottled marble penny tile in the shower, the pale blue shiplap wall covering, and the wood-look porcelain flooring add the dimension and texture that the original bathroom lacked. New windows give the whole scene a soft, natural glow.

Serene Soaking Tub
The freestanding tub is framed by white linen drapery panels for a bit of understated drama. Out of view, the toilet resides in a separate walled-in compartment.

Charming Details
A glimpse of the far wall reveals an eclectic arrangement of art that warms up the room’s cool color palette and makes the space feel lived-in and cozy. The double vanity sits atop a bank of pristine Malibu White Shaker-style cabinets from Cabinets To Go.
