Colorful Kids' Bedroom
A design full of spunk and energy, the kids’ bedroom diverts from the norm with a blend of fun vibrant hues and bold striped walls to deliver a definite wow factor. “We were looking at preppy colors, and the hot bright pastels were sort of the beginning of this room,” says interior designer Linda Woodrum.
Bold Pink Striped Wall
Soaring pink stripes direct the eye up to the impressive vaulted ceilings. “I’m usually a horizontal stripes person but we chose to use vertical stripes because the room has these beautiful vaulted ceilings that should be accentuated rather than pulled down,” says Linda.
Locally-Sourced Art
A ‘Happy on Chappy’ plaque hangs above the white media dresser and refers to Chappaquiddick, a small island off of Martha’s Vineyard. Bright colored furniture and artwork add a playful touch to this whimsical retreat.
Turquoise Twin Beds
"We knew we wanted to do the bright turquoise beds," says Linda. Every vibrant, eye-catching detail was thoughtfully chosen to coordinate with the beds and "make a wow room".
Private Outdoor Retreat
French doors open to a private bluestone paved patio where kids have their very own spot to sit and enjoy the outdoors.
Playful Patio Furniture
After a day of romping around on the island, children can enjoy a private outdoor space to unwind. Teak lounge chairs with turquoise cushions and a pink throw blanket bring the cheerful theme of the kids’ room outside.
Hard-Working Design
“We had fun in this room and we did use an indoor/outdoor, sisal-like rug because we wanted it to be durable for small children,” says Linda.
Bright and Whimsical
A generous amount of natural light floods the room from surrounding windows, enhancing the open and airiness.
Cozy Quilts
Because quilts and New England design go hand-in-hand, Linda intentionally chose the brightly colored quilts on each bed to tie the room together.
Tabletop Decor
A solid white oak desk with a fresh modern design serves as a nightstand for both twin beds. Elegant tabletop accessories include sleek white lamps and a tulip arrangement.
Layers of Color
“Designing this bedroom was a mix of bringing hot, bright colors together to make this room really pop," says Linda. "We brought in the sisal rug to calm it down. It’s always a process of layering to get things to work.”
Must-Have Storage
A spacious walk-in closet features custom shelving that keep clothes, shoes and accessories neat and tidy.
Inviting Entry
In the hallway locally-sourced art brightens the neutral walls outside of the kids’ bedroom and mimics the blue color scheme found throughout the home.
Hallway Furnishings
A solid white oak chest is statement piece adorned with candles that emit a soft, inviting glow.
