The garage's unique breakaway wall system is clad in PVC slats and screening, which guards against bugs and animals.

The garage accommodates two vehicles and provides storage space for bikes, kayaks and golfing equipment. Southern yellow pine timbers connect the garage architecturally to the house proper.

"We wanted the ground level of the house to feel like an inviting living space and an extension of the upper living levels, so we added a comfortable seating area with a Ping-Pong table and television and sealed the cement floors with a protective marine coating to give the floors a glossy finished look," says house planner Jack Thomasson.

The garage's slatted walls and ceiling hooks accommodate storage of sea kayaks, beach cruisers and golfing equipment.

Beach cruisers, suspended from ceiling hooks, lend a sculptural quality to garage interiors.

The screened-in and slatted wall becomes an additional storage surface.

A humidity-controlled closet within the garage houses golfing bags, clubs and equipment and fishing nets.
