The front entry serves as a passageway from the front door to the gathering room and the lower-level living area.

The front door, crafted from hemlock planks reclaimed from the interior of a 150-year-old home, complements the natural pine flooring and yellow birch panel ceiling.

The home's modern style dictated the design of the staircase, which features reclaimed hemlock handrails and stainless steel cable balusters.

Modern in design with echoes of early American style, a six-arm trumpet chandelier illuminates the staircase.

Modern artwork greets guests at the landing. Colors echo fall foliage hues chosen for the gathering room’s color palette.

Pastel and oil stick paintings from artist Axel Stohlberg's Kayak Series typify the home's modern style.

Stainless steel cables stand in for traditional staircase balusters. Railing was fabricated by LWI Metalworks in Morrisville, Vt.

Simple, understated furnishings keep eyes focused on the gathering room and exceptional views it offers.

A modern drum light brightens the space. A velvet-topped bench offers a spot to stop, relax and examine the surroundings.

An oversized mirror, purchased at Patina in Shelburne, VT, is framed with reclaimed tin ceiling material.

A powder room, sandwiched between the mudroom and the front entry, bursts with colors inspired by the Vermont landscape. "It's just this wonderful land of contrasts," says interior designer Linda Woodrum. "That plays a lot into the design scheme."

A wall in the powder room is dedicated to oil paintings by Dorothy Martinez. "Those work so beautifully on that color," says interior designer Linda Woodrum. "They are contemporary and about structure, and I thought they just looked great."

A single-handle, center-set faucet saves countertop space in the small power room.

Topped with a dark quartz countertop, the dark wood vanity provides cabinet storage space as well as open shelving to display plush towels.
