HGTV Dream Home 2010: Back Patio Pictures
Modular seating crafted in a weatherproof vinyl offers an inviting spot to relax, chat with friends and enjoy the glow of the Rinnai gas fireplace.
A gas fireplace by Rinnai features a custom-built surround topped with granite.
The fireplace is shared by the great room, visible via a bank of windows.
Yard walls separate this entertaining space from the desert landscape. The walls also offer additional seating should a small gathering of friends turn into a crowd.
At sunset, the stucco exterior and Belgard walls take on a salmon hue.
Surrounded by landscaped beds and protected by a metal canopy, a small seating area adjacent to the modular sectional offers a cozy spot to reconnect with a friend.
The HGTV Dream Play Home provides a great escape for children. Exterior architecture mirrors that of the main house; interior murals are inspired by Disney's Alice in Wonderland.
The playhouse interior is inspired by a frame from Disney's animated movie, Alice in Wonderland. Picture frames displayed on the wall are crafted by carpenter David Brown and feature images provided by Disney. A tea-time table and chairs add to the playtime fun.
A metal canopy defines the grilling station, where a Wolf gas grill is flanked by 6-foot granite-topped yard walls.
Crushed-stone ground cover in a golden hue and Elaeagnus brighten the area that surrounds the back patio.
A ten-foot metal sculpture, discovered by interior designer Linda Woodrum and house planner Jack Thomasson during a shopping trip to Madrid, presides over the side yard.
Cactus are paired with sedum to add color in the side yard.
"Metal was selected as the material to distinguish (and contrast) from the weighty mass of the stucco structure," says designer Amy Coburn. "The purpose was to create some shading, spatial articulation and visual interest."
The back patio provides a spectacular view of the Sandia Mountain Range.
A dramatic outdoor sculpture by Southwest petroglyph expert Ley Powell is crafted in steel and comes from the artist's Shaman Series.
Low-growing pine, shrubbery and boulders creates a natural setting to surround the back patio.
At night, lights from the great room illuminate the back patio, and the fireplace provides a subtle glow.
Designed to accommodate large crowds, the back patio serves as an extension of the great room, with comfortable seating options and spectacular views.
