A Get-Social Cooking Space

The gourmet kitchen in Dream Home 2009 is designed with the busy host in mind. "I love that the kitchen really works as a kitchen and then when lots of people are over it will accommodate tons of people and still function," interior designer Linda Woodrum says. "People in Sonoma really celebrate the joy of food and wine so we wanted to acknowledge that when we created the Dream Home kitchen."

Modern Meets Traditional

The gourmet space’s clean and modern feel comes courtesy of gray Silestone countertops and backsplash which blend seamlessly into the dovetail gray walls.

Organizing Made Easy

Two Sub-Zero refrigerators accommodate both the weekly needs of the family and weekend crowds. Four shelves of space above each refrigerator conceal those large and not-so-often-used appliances and serving trays. Cabinets next to the stove include narrow linen drawers and deeper pull-out trays to stow away frequently used dry goods, utensils and spices.

Chef's Best

A food connoisseur’s dream come true and surely the standout feature of this kitchen space, the Wolf Dual Fuel Range features six porcelain-coated cast-iron burners, an infrared griddle, a convection oven with infrared broilers and a nonconvection oven.

Eye on Accessories

The kitchen comes fully equipped and ready for a foodie to stock the fridges and fire up the gas stove. The space would not be complete, however, without tools of the trade; the winner’s prize package includes a Food Network® knife block set and a cutting board made of acacia wood.

Storage A-Plenty

Out of sight; out of mind. Oversized pantry closets and cooking accessories that could easily clutter the clean kitchen space are concealed behind tall, curtain-lined glass doors. The closets' custom-built shelving accommodates everything from casual dinnerware and glasses to large platters, cutting boards and sheet pans.

Nod to Victorian

Cabinetmaker details, including elegant, turned columns, echo the classic look of the kitchen islands.

Pour and Serve

In California wine country, nearly every occasion calls for a bottle of red or white. A rattan serving tray, complete with terra-cotta wine cooler and rabbit-style wine opener, keeps Ledson wines at the ready.

Cooling the Collection

Temperature-controlled Sub-Zero Wine Units, built into the kitchen island, house a growing wine collection. Each stainless steel unit features two climate-controlled compartments with cherry-faced, roller-glide shelves.

Dinner Made Easy

The busy host will appreciate the Wolf microwave, nested between the wine storage units and stacked above a handy warming drawer, which keeps dishes delicious when guests run late.

Casual Atmosphere

Celebrations call for candlelight, and Linda added a cozy touch in the kitchen with two oversized glass hurricane lamps, filled with flickering pillar candles. "The beans are an easy and inexpensive way to stabilize the candles," Linda adds, "and you can always find a color that works in the room."

Sip and Snack

A natural gathering spot, the kitchen is stocked with munchies, letting guests nibble, sip wine and chat while the host puts the finishing touches on the evening’s meal.
