A Vintage Vibe

Kim Myles, host of HGTV's Myles of Style, was invited to do a little daydreaming and design a kids' bedroom packed with personality for the HGTV Dream Home 2009. And did she deliver! Kim avoided kids' room cliches (girlie pink walls or floor-to-ceiling Federal blue) and decided instead to draw upon her own favorite hobbies and childhood memories. "To be honest, I'm a girl who adores cool cars, and I was quite the track and field star (albeit in sixth grade!)," Kim admits, "so this room was more about bold choices and a bit of vintage flair rather than girl versus boy."

A Fun Foundation

Maple four-poster beds are set against a colorful, kid-neutral backdrop. "My favorite part of the room is the chrome diamond plate-print border (auto supply!)," says Kim. "I love the flash of metallic, as well as the bold quality of its relationship to the charcoal and red walls."

A Hint of Homespun

Patchwork quilts in Americana colors add a note of calm in the car-themed space. On chilly Sonoma nights, kids can cuddle in the super-soft fleece throw blankets, folded at the end of the beds.

Auto Decor

Furthering the car theme, Kim placed a chrome wheel cover above the head of each bed. The clever budget-decor idea adds a bit of sparkle and shine to the room.
