A family of four has outgrown their two-bedroom rental and is willing to take on a fixer-upper in order to stay in their hometown of Burbank, California. Once they lock in a home, they start a few projects on their own, but learning renovation by trial and error starts to get costly. They bring in a designer and contractor for reinforcements, but soon learn they must take out a big bite of their design budget to update their old electrical and have their place abated. With each twist and turn they uncover more problems but eventually bring their young family home to a house that exceeds their expectations.

California newlyweds navigate a competitive real estate market with a $1.3 million budget to find their dream home. They tackle renovations throughout the house, but a dangerous electrical issue threatens to burn everything to the ground. After months of living through renovation, they must call her parents in as reinforcements to get everything done.

A Rogue Renovation

A family of five Texas transplants is on the hunt for a home near family in California's South Bay area. They'd love to find a house with a big backyard, a fantastic view and a chef's kitchen but preferences clash when it comes to style. Their agent helps them find a home they can agree on but it comes with a lot of required renovation throughout. Their contractor and designer help them face problems with the stovetop hood, countertops and potential design plan issues, but decisions made off the books could potentially delay the entire renovation. It's a stressful project with lots of lows and highs but the house is eventually molded into something the family is excited to move into and enjoy for years to come.

A Massachusetts couple is juggling a new baby and a big renovation of their starter home. They flip their layout to get more space and their dream kitchen, but the project faces potential obstacles in the form of mold and supply delays.

A Denver couple is eager to move out of their current place and into a larger single-family home closer to shops and restaurants. They agree on wanting three bedrooms and a large backyard for their dogs, and are both open to finding a home that needs a bit of work. Their agent uses all his resources to find a home that meets all their needs and renovations quickly begin with a major focus on the kitchen. Their contractor and designer have their hands full trying to please the couple with their vastly different tastes. They eventually make compromises to keep each other happy, however, and wind up making both their kitchen and designs throughout the house even more stunning than they anticipated.

After living in nine rentals in eight years, an Aurora, Colorado, couple searches for a home of their own with a fabulous kitchen and plenty of space for their daughter and pets. Once they choose a house and start a big kitchen overhaul, they find that building a master chef's kitchen turns out to be tougher than they thought. Unexpected flooring and electrical issues take a big bite out of their budget, but they power through all the ups and downs to finish their culinary masterpiece.

Garrett and Kristian decide to move out of Garrett's remodeled condo in West Hollywood, California, and buy a home that reflects their two distinct styles. When they do finally get the keys to their new house, they quickly start a full house remodel, but it doesn't take long to discover that this won't be a cake-walk project. Structural problems, termite-infested beams and damaged flooring all come with a big price tag, leaving them wondering if they need to completely change their design layout.

A newly engaged couple races the clock to find, buy and renovate their dream home and barn near Denver, Colorado, before their upcoming wedding. They both have plenty of ideas on how they want their home to look, but as their budget begins to snowball, they struggle to agree on which add-ons and upgrades are necessary. With a lot of patience and negotiating, they end up with the perfect home to begin their married life together.

The couple begins to worry the job won't get done in time when they encounter problems with storage, lack of color and a delivery malfunction, so they take on a few projects to keep things on track.

A Grand, Glam Gut Job

After building up their budget flipping one house after another, a Glendale, CA, couple is ready to put everything they've learned and saved into their own dream home. She loves Spanish and Mediterranean-style homes and is holding firm that whatever house they get will receive her custom lux touches. He, however, likes the clean lines of midcentury design and doesn't want any of the glam. Once they agree on a house, the renovations begin and immediately run into multiple structural issues. Upgrades in materials cause their budget to skyrocket and new projects are being added at every turn. If they can manage their expectations and stay the course, however, they'll get the dream home they've worked so hard for.
