Egyptian Design

Egypt Sherrod, seen here in one of the homes she helped make over for HGTV's Flipping Virgins, knows how to create great spaces without breaking the bank. "I would say I got my personal style from my grandmother," she says. "She would take me out on the weekends consignment shopping, and it just stuck." Her home just outside Atlanta incorporates elegant furnishings alongside beautifully restored thrift-store finds and bargain antiques.

Dining Room

Just off the front entrance is the formal dining room which Egypt says, so far, has served more for show than for dining. (She's only eaten at this table three times.) The chandelier was an item she found on a clearance shelf in a lighting store. Her husband restored it and brought it back to life. The dining chairs were purchased for $100 and reupholstered in tufted fabric and with leather backing.

Library

Across the foyer from the formal dining room is this den/library that Egypt designed for less than $2000. The slipper chairs, in deep red, were purchased from a consignment store for $80 and reupholstered. The vintage pedestal phone is covered in Egyptian hieroglyphics. (Get it?)

Library

The tufted ottoman was discount item purchased online. The highlight in this space is the antique sleigh bed she picked up for a bargain price.

Living Room

With its coffered ceilings and classic decor, the living room is the space that's Egypt's greatest source of pride. The original fireplace was replaced with a custom one with massive cast-stone mantel. A statement chandelier and recessed lighting were added to brighten up the space, and built-in book cases are lined with grass cloth.

The "She Den"

This is the only room in the house that is mine...mine, mine, MINE! I wanted my own space where I could think, create, be and, sometimes, just take a nap.
—Egypt Sherrod

The "She Den"

In the She Den, Egypt has a white board — aka, the "Think Board" — where she keeps, not only reminders and to-do lists, but inspirational thoughts, motivaitons and quotes: "Think big. Work from a space of gratitude. Kindness and mercy." A conventional blackboard contains her bucket list of things she wants to accomplish (or has accomplished) in her lifetime. Among the items topping that list: sky dive, visit Thailand and meet Oprah.

"The Heart of the Home"

The open floorplan of the kitchen and adjacent den and breakfast nook makes this space ideal for entertaining and casual dining.

Kitchen and Breakfast Nook

The breakfast area is bathed in light from large windows and overlooks the backyard, offering a terrific view — especially in the spring and summer when things are green and flowers are in bloom.

Kitchen and Breakfast Nook

Light from the floor-to-ceiling windows spills over into the kitchen, bringing an outdoor feeling into the heart of the home.

Kitchen

Egypt's favorite feature in the kitchen are the countertops in calacatta gold marble.

The cabinetry is original to the house but was painted white and outfitted with dark metal hardware for a timeless look.

Den

This cozy den is located just off the kitchen and breakfast nook. With its casual vibe, dark hardwood floors and stone fireplace, it's the perfect for relaxing.

Den and Kitchen

The gallery wall, designed and built by Egypt's husband, features family photos in an array of wood frames in varying finishes, from basic black to distressed white to weathered barnwood.

The feature wall provides a centralized display for consolidating Egypt's large collection of family photos in a manner where they can be readily enjoyed.

Egypt's favorite chair, in tufted brown leather, is the spot where she likes to unwind after a long shoot day. It's strategically placed in front of the fireplace and with a great view on the back patio.
