Tarek to the Rescue!
The premiere of Tarek El Moussa’s new series is finally here! In case you need a refresher, Flipping 101 w/ Tarek El Moussa spotlights Tarek as he shares his secrets to success with first-time flippers. If you’ve ever watched an episode of Flip or Flop, then you know how risky flipping can be. From dilapidated interiors and delayed construction to unexpected costs and angry neighbors, Tarek knows a thing or two about how to handle the common flipping obstacles newbies are sure to run into.
A Los Angeles Craftsman
Newbie flippers Victor and Diana purchased this 1,600-square-foot, 4-bedroom/2.25-bathroom Craftsman home in Los Angeles for $480,000. They bought the house sight unseen — a risky move for rookie flippers. The outside of the home looks promising however one big flaw was evident immediately: The driveway is shared with the next-door neighbor.
Living Room, Before
As is common in many older homes, the floor plan is not open concept. The large fireplace is not only nonfunctional, but it is taking up a large amount of valuable space.
Kitchen, Before
The home’s kitchen is dated to say the least. The cabinetry, lack of counter space, awkward layout and orange hue combine to create a nightmare of a kitchen that will require at least $20,000 of Victor and Deanna’s rehab budget.
Master Bathroom, Before
One of the positives of the original home is that the master suite is on a floor of its own. Although Tarek was impressed by the size of this master bathroom, he knew it would still require a full gut job in order to satisfy buyers.
Backyard, Before
Tarek has hundreds of flips under his belt, but this is the first with a shared backyard. In his opinion, it’s the biggest drawback to the house. The detached garage in particular is hardly functional with only a door for one car.
Kitchen, After
A large peninsula now stands where there once was a large, unfunctional fireplace. To add color and detail to the mostly white kitchen, Tarek recommended tiling the front of the peninsula.
Bedroom, After
The home’s bedrooms required updates to the windows and floors, as well as a fresh coat of paint. This new, updated bedroom shares a Jack-and-Jill bathroom with another bedroom — perfect for a growing family.
Open House Time
After placing cameras around the newly finished flip, Victor, Deanna and Tarek watch the open house unfold from Tarek’s mobile office. Tune in tonight at 9|8c for the series premiere of Flipping 101 w/ Tarek El Moussa to find out how these first-time flippers did!
