It looks like first-time sellers Amanda and Logan might have to sell for $100,000 less than their purchase price. They refuse to short-sell or go into foreclosure, even though they might have to bring more than $60,000 to the closing table. They are determined to move into a bigger home before the arrival of their second child, as the 1,000-square foot condo is too small for two children, two dogs, and a home office. But when home values in the Washington D.C. suburb continue to slide, this couple decides the smart money decision is to wait for the market to rebound, and rent in the meantime.
Anthony and John meet Liz and Anthony Pino, a young family living in Hoboken, NJ. Anthony Pino is a successful local chef who aspires to have a more modern and functional kitchen at home, while Liz is all about having a space that looks like it's from the pages of a magazine. When the cousins suggest a plan of action, the homeowners don't seem to agree: they have a specific idea of what their dream kitchen should look like and they're not willing to compromise. Liz wants an all white kitchen, complete with a honed marble countertop, no matter the upkeep involved, and her husband wants to make her happy. Anthony and John have no choice but to follow their client's wishes. After warning them about possible staining and scratching, John and his Aunt Francine help Anthony and Liz choose a beautiful Carrara marble countertop. The cousins decide to come up with a creative solution that will help keep the marble countertop stain free for as long as possible. When the Pinos finally see the finished space, will they get their wish of a magazine kitchen?
Sarah and Greg have no idea the endless storage possibilities their kitchen has until Alison gets her hands on it. She starts by knocking down a major wall between the kitchen and dining room and taking out soffits to make room for floor to ceiling maple cabinetry and a large peninsula for prep. Next, Alison moves the sink and range to give this kitchen the ideal kitchen work triangle. Once the layout is improved, Alison and the homeowners work to build custom closets in what was once a dead area in the dining room. Alison and Greg not only make the closets functional, but also bring in style when they add molding decor to each door. Sarah and Alison have a DIY project of their own, constructing a cutting board that slides along the peninsula countertop for both function and look. Alison keeps her finishes simple, but adds pop with a Moroccan style backsplash, warm toned nail down wood flooring and quartz countertops.
