For Gail Carlson, design, art and architecture aren’t just hobbies. They’re ways of life.
Growing up, Gail could most often be found playing among the textiles in her parents’ Sarasota, FL, interior design studio and drapery workroom, a place that instilled Gail with not only her appreciation for quality and beauty, but also her keen business sense. With a love of design practically part of her DNA, it’s no surprise that Gail decided to pursue a career in the field.
After studying interior design at Florida State University, she honed her expertise at firms both national—like Los Angeles’ Barry Design Associates—and on the east and west coasts of Florida. As she continued to develop her signature design style, a strong repeat and referral clientele grew—and in 1998, Gail Carlson Interiors was born. Then, in 2012, Studio G opened on State Street in downtown Sarasota. Studio G was developed to serve as a home furnishings retail store and a working studio for Gail Carlson Interiors.
When Gail speaks about her work, you can immediately hear the passion she has for it. She likes to laugh that she’s just as comfortable hammering out details on a construction site as she is selecting furniture or fabric swatches. And she loves all aspects of the design process and completely immerses herself in her projects, from first discussions with the client or architect about the vision for the home to the last fluff of a couch cushion. Each one receives her undivided devotion and meticulous attention to details, and the result is a home that’s tailored to reflect each client’s personal style. Her ability to listen to her clients and understand their dreams and lifestyles makes for interiors that are decorative yet functional, simple yet beautiful and well designed. Gail believes that every project is a unique opportunity to take the client beyond their expectations.
