About
I’m Marian, aka Miss Mustard Seed. A youth pastor’s wife, mother of two little boys and a lover of all things home. I am a business owner, though I have never thought of myself as an entrepreneur. I am an uneducated designer and full-out amateur photographer. I am a writer who totally abuses commas and relies heavily on spell check (and never did that great in English classes.) Despite all of those things, here I am. A business that was started in the hopes of contributing to the family income has grown beyond anything I ever imagined or hoped for. I am now passionate about sharing what I have learned in the hopes of encouraging others.
I am always in paint splattered clothes. My sweet family tolerates the constant furniture rearranging. I’ve never worked harder in my life. And I love every minute of it.
Miss Mustard Seed, the blog, was first published in 2009 on a whim. I wanted to advertise my business, but I also wished to connect with other DIY/Home bloggers. The decision was made early on to make this blog a valuable resource, filled with tutorials, practical advice, encouragement and a dose of reality. Some of the blog series cover making slipcovers, starting a creative business, painting furniture, before & after inspiration and decorating tips & tricks. Since that first post, Miss Mustard Seed has grown to over 23,000 subscribers and over 1,000,000 page views each month.
Mustard Seed Interiors LLC is a small business that was born out of a love for antiques, decorating on a budget, and giving old pieces of furniture new life. The initial expectation was to earn $200/month to help with purchasing groceries and diapers. What started out as a one-woman-show decorative painting and mural business, evolved into an antiques business that tripped into a blog and blossomed into a entire brand. In 2012, Miss Mustard Seed’s Milk Paint line was launched and is now carried in over 300 retail locations in the US, Canada, Europe, Australia, Dubai and Malaysia.
