Oceanside Sitting Area With Adirondack Chairs

A pair of Adirondack chairs with matching striped pillows offer a place to sit and enjoy the fresh ocean air. There's even sand beneath the chairs to get the feeling of being at the beach.

Alternate View of Bocce Court

The ocean bluff side of the house is a narrow strip designed and installed with strictly low impact uses. A cantilevered deck, native plants, dry-laid pavers and a bocce court bring the living outside. On a clear day, the homeowners watch pelicans fishing, hang gliders drifting by at eye level and surfers in the white water from their breakfast table.

Comfy Outdoor Sitting Area With Fire Pit and Pond

The see-through nature of the house shows how the home strongly connects with the landscape. A terraced sitting area by the turtle pond features cushioned chairs and a small fire pit at the center.

Turtle Pond Next to Outdoor Sitting Area

A quaint, colorful sitting area next to the turtle pond features bright orange and blue square seats that pair with a square-topped concrete table. A tall wooden fence adds a level of privacy to the space.

Front Yard Pool With Paver Walkway and Low Water Plants

The front yard includes a refreshing pool that's perfect for swimming laps, low water plants, a giant dragon tree and a paver walkway that leads to the back entrance to the home.

Front Yard Features Pool and Dragon Tree

To maximize the views from inside the house, the majority of the outdoor living space was placed on the street-side front yard. A pool was a must for the clients. The existing 60-year old Dragon Tree on site was carefully protected throughout construction and formed the inspiration around which the house and garden were designed. The tree shaped the garden and planting palette, while providing the depth and age a new home may lack.

Oceanside Dining Area

Enjoy alfresco dining with the ocean waves crashing behind you. After the meal is over, guests can play a game or two of bocce.

Kinetic Sculpture

The ever-changing kinetic sculpture evokes pelicans in flight.

Bocce Court With Ocean View

A bocce ball court is surrounded by lovely landscaping and a breathtaking view of the ocean.

Turtle Pond, Sitting Area and Baja Entry Pool

The baja entry pool eliminates the need for a ladder, thus making the design a lot cleaner. A geometric sitting area beside the turtle pond reflects the sleek, contemporary design of the space.

Street View of Beach Home

The glass fence creates soft screening between the front yard, pool, house and the public sidewalk. It also provides shelter from the salt-laden wind for the veggie beds and a couple of small fruit trees. Salvaged grape stake fencing keeps dogs out of the veggie beds, without discouraging a neighborly chat or exchange of produce.

Pool and Lounging Area

A paver walkway leading to the pool is flanked by low water shrubs and mulch. Lounge seating beside the pool feature modern umbrellas for shade, and a long frosted glass wall ensures there's privacy from the neighbors.
